I flew into Anchorage on a whim, without any planning ahead. Upon arrival I discovered that every hotel, motel and hostel to be booked. My flight got in around midnight. After searching and calling around for nearly an hour, Brown Bear Saloon magically popped up with 1 room available. I immediately got into a taxi and headed there. At first I was nervous because it seemed kind of far, but my stay proved to be worth the drive. Matt (the owner) kindly greeted me to let me into my room. He was so generous, kind, and sincere, as were his staff and everyone else in the bar. I ended up booking for another night. Matt loaned me bear spray and suggested some lovely hikes in the area. It was the perfect place for me to come visit. My room was quaint and clean. The food was fresh and delicious, as well. I have absolutely no complaints about Brown Bear Saloon and Motel. I hope that those who travel upon this gem, will leave feeling as pleased and grateful as I do. ♥️ Thank you for the...
Read moreConsidering this is a CHEAP ROOM OVER A BAR, I was pleasently surprised. What matters (to me) was CLEAN ENOUGH. Bath, and linens. Hot shower.. Nothing else alive in the room besides me. Bar soap only. Newly updated by obvious DIYer. Reminded me of my dad and home projects. Good enough. Also had unexpected fridge, microwave and coffee maker. Simple cheap blinds, so needed sleep mask. A bit noisey over the bar, but that was expected. Used my headband to cover my ears. Pillow smelled like Old Spice (again reminding me of dear old dad) so I slept on a wadded up sweatshirt. Drunk chick had a room and woke everyone up but passed out within the hour. Much better than the online photos. Nice staff. Bartender said they had outdoor music on hold because of covid and road construction, so that might change things. I just wanted to get a night's sleep. All in all a great choice. Saved enough to...
Read moreI can't read the review before me without throwing in my opinion. At it's best the Brown Bear Saloon is one of the greatest roadhouse style dive bars in Alaska. For a decent price one can get a 24oz PBR and a burger basket in one of the best places in suburban Anchorage. The owner is always welcoming, and the setting is much like Indian, Alaska, do as you please as long as you don't bother anyone. I love this bar. It's like drinking at home. No pretentiousness, no formalities, no judgments. Cold beer, Bar food, and a great view. The bar can have some strange "ürban" shows every once in a while, when the weirdo, metro, Anchorage freaks come infiltrate to hear some industrial music but aside from that it is a must stop for a little ALASKANA. Two restuarants, a bar, a liquor store and a meat processor how can...
