Alot of complaining on this site. Host are VOLUNTEERS. If you dont like outdoor toilets perhaps you need to stay in a hotel. Toilet paper available and no accidents on the toilet lid is a big win for me in a campground. And no there are no chemicals provided to make it smell fresh as a daisy in those bathrooms, blame the campers for what they ate and deposited in there for the smell. If you are too good to walk around and pick up free firewood on the ground stay home or purchase it prior to your camping trip. If you want to blame the moose for charging at your small yapping unleashed dog then you DO NOT need to be camping. Or, I love this one, one lady complained because a moose and her calf were in their camping area. Most people would love to have that happen while camping in Alaska. What is wrong with some of you? Camping is NOT glamorous. "Lynn".... be glad the host assisted you to find your reserved space. It is not his job to check on you during your stay because you booked a secluded camping space. If you are scared of being out in nature stay home.. This is a self service campground. Some of you need to stay at home!!! With that being said it is beautiful here. Great views. Easy trails to walk. Kid and pet friendly. 3 night maximum stay. No dump station and no firewood for sale. Come prepared and quit being a bunch of Karens! And no I am not the host , I was a co host who had a full time job but assisted on days off when I could. It would take the staff of a 5 star hotel to make some of...

Kind of mediocre, so in line with most Alaskan state campgrounds. Honestly, I'm all about rustic campgrounds, and come from the Yukon, where all government campgrounds are very basic, off grid with pit toilets etc...but at least they're well-maintained and have some privacy between sites...I was a bit depressed by the lack of care, maintenance, and planning at most of the several Alaskan state campgrounds I recently visited. No toilet paper and feces stained toilet seats, outhouses badly in need of a simple coat of paint on the rotten floors and with broken locks, dump stations and water supplies inexplicably out of long-term order; nearly every hand water pump across the state broken, campsites very near one another with little privacy, despite being carved out of dense conifer forests that could afford a good measure of it; "double campsites" that are literally adjoining each other and are almost always taken by only one camper with no consequence (?!); At least two state campgrounds on the very remote Richardson hwy with gates locked in mid-june for no apparent reason, and no warning on the signs or website, causing dangerous 3 point trailer backups onto the highway, etc, etc....bit of a shame for the state to not put more thought and resources into this infrastructure that could really showcase an amazingly scenic land...I mean - of all the states, right? And don't get me started on the website...man alive... I guess that's what no state...

My husband and I camped here in a 25 ft motor home the first and last night of our 3 week trip to be close to Anchorage. We made a reservation for the first night which was during the third week in August to make sure we had a spot.||||We had a tough time finding the campground. Some of the directional signs were behind trees and shrubs so you really have to pay attention. We weren't the only ones taking wrong roads and turning around but we finally found it.||||When we arrived, we stopped at the camp host building and there was a dry erase board with our name and our site #. We were assigned site #25 and it was wooded and quiet and on the road across from the river. All sites have a picnic table and fire pit. We could hear the sound of the rushing river while we slept which I loved. You can hear some street traffic but it didn’t bother us. ||||There’s a very nice walking trail along the river in the campground which we enjoyed. We didn’t use any facilities so I can’t comment on those.||||We didn’t have a reservation for our last night so we paid our $20 and selected site # 16 which was wooded and quiet. There were woods on one side and a steep treed hill behind us. It was the second week in September and there were plenty of sites to choose from.||||The campground was clean and quiet. We would definitely stay...

I gave them 5 stars because it was a good place to camp. I didn't give a rating for the room since it wasn't applicable to me with staying in a camper and tent. The park is a good size with multiple trails going through it. I did find some bear paw prints in the sand along the river near the street bridges that runs up top of the river, I also seemed to have found what looked to be a bear den with big claw marks dug deep into some of the trees near the den as well which I thought was cool. There's multiple spots to get a kayak in the river as well. I also noticed it's a category 3 river for whoever needs that kind of info. The first night we stayed in the overflow lot where we met with a park ranger that was just doing his rounds checking in on people seeing how things were and he was a nice guy he gave us plenty of park info. The other night we moved over to campsite 53 and that site was better than the over flow one mostly because the bathrooms were closer than they were at the other site. I also can say that the park doesn't allow four wheelers there either. Overall it was a good time camping the weekend there.

All paved to each site, however, most all are double sites! Obvious there is no host on site as spaces are coned off for reservations made in early July? Host site has a two man pup tent on it with no sign of occupancy. Eagle river barely visible from any site. Dont mind the signs at entry: landfill and PRISON, the prison airspace is restricted so you can count on an unlimited amount of low flying aircraft skirting the prison airspace. Lower loop sites in 20’s, no speed bumps, count on some vehicles doing 40+ mph! The lower loop appears to have privacy until you realize the upper loop looms on top of you. We didnt notice the upper sites till the gaggle of screening kids descended down the hill into our site. If you need to dump, dont plan on it here, thats closed and out of order. Water? Nope, out of order! Other then that, great place to cop a squat and payment is optional as far as we can tell.
