So it depends on what you want, what you expect and what you'll settle for. |Yes-it is family run. Seems the stress levels can run high, tempers flair and it's all out there for everyone to see. On good days the owner is excellent. On bad days, avoid at all costs. Convenient, walk from the cabin to the river. Cast line, hook a salmon. Doesn't get any easier. |Unfortunately the property is beyond its prime. Upkeep is poor. Kind of rustic Alaskan meets the projects? The hot tub area is worn. The fitness room is unused, or used for storage. The laundry room is used during the day by housekeeping, after 6pm guest use. That's nice but there are towels and everything is laying around. The cabins themselves are aged. Nice kitchen/cook areas. Coffee, popcorn and such available. The water is most certainly well water, has a distinct sulphur odor and stains the porcelain. There's a strictly enforced No Shoes policy. Seriously? The TVs are nice flatscreens. Mattresses should've been replaced 5 years ago. You can arrange charters, a fish cleaning station on site, coolers and some gear available. Kind of worn and can seem like you're imposing when you ask for something. If-I/we ever come back to Alaska for another trip I think I'll find someplace else. |IF I were to mention (not recommend) this place I would really caution anyone to be aware it's like staying with your cranky aunt/uncle & cousin. You can get along or get on each...
Read moreMy name is Cal Sibert,I got to stay at Krog's Kamp a few years ago as part of a dream vacation that was organized for me after going on disability. Mel donated our lodging for one week, and made us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. The staff was always right there if you needed anything, and everyone was treated as family. We got to catch a 68.7 pound king when the guide took us to a spot Mel suggested. We also did a fly-in to a spot where we got to watch a brown bear mere feet away(who was also fishing) while we fished for sockeye. Mel set it all up. Anything you want to do, she can help so you just get to enjoy your time. Evenings were typically spent around the campfire with any who wished to join in. Great stories were the highlight. The river and scenery is beautiful. If you have never been to Alaska, noone can adequately describe the beauty, you have to see it for yourself. I definitely recommend Krog's Kamp, the one thing I would suggest though is to bring your own rods and reels, if you're like me. it's just better to use your own gear. We also had moose right outside our cabin which was pretty...

I have taken many friends and family over the years and everyone had a fantastic experience. Once you are booked in, it's literally one stop shopping. Mel can arrange halibut charters, salmon, fly outs and much much more. This is a great benefit because you know you're getting booked with a reputable company that is tested and proven. You're just minutes from town and multiple restaurants, Fred Meyer and many more.. The KAMP also provides poles needed for Fishing from the bank on nice large docks. Besides the great view and large frontage on the Kenai River. There are also several other nice amenities: A fire pit, gazebo with a grill, each cabin has a grill and there is a large hot tub.
