Fairbanks, Alaska has some RV parks, but we wanted something outside the hustle and bustle of the city. So, we tried Fox.
The lady who runs the office is nice, the owners are okay. The park is a little cramped and not well designed for bigger rigs. It is very tight and the spaces are small. Bigger rigs trying to navigate through the park might have problems.
This basically looks like someone bought a piece of undeveloped property and tried to make an RV park. It sort of works.
The best thing to do before staying here is to satellite the place so that you can see what you are getting into. The website doesn't tell you much, no real pictures to go by. No map.
You are limited in what you get here. You do have showers, but they are incredibly small and very basic. Skinny people won't have a problem. Toilets are separate from the showers.
Wifi is decent. Normal speeds for the most part. But, note to those who are WIFI addicts - ask to be put close to the antenna.
DOWNSIDES
Cell service. If you have AT&T you will be okay - SORT OF. It may not work inside your rig. It MIGHT work outside your rig. But, you may have to go off property to get service. Any other carriers? Forget about it. There WILL NOT BE SERVICE.
And yes, you will see a tower sitting on a mountain across the street from the park, but no one seems to know whose tower that is.
WATER
The water is full of iron. You will have a smell on your skin after showering, your hair color could change (especially if blonde). Your clothes will be stained from the laundry. The water itself smells. Your tanks will be stained by the water.
Yes, there are those who have lived there 10 years or more and are quite used to it. That doesn't make it any better. That doesn't change the facts.
We were warned by the office staff before arriving about the water, but since we were ignorant of just what iron rich water was, we were caught off guard. Let's just say, take your laundry to a laundry mat if you want to salvage your clothes.
Quiet?
Sort of. The main road outside the park has quite a lot of 18 wheeler traffic day and night. There is road construction going on up the road and various road work being done down the road. At night, when lying in bed you can hear the 18 wheelers and their lovely jake brakes.
It's not a bad place overall, it just has its issues and at the end of the day you are left with one very important question - just what are you willing to tolerate?
Note - they are going up on...
Read moreAlthough the older lady who runs the RV park is a sweetheart, I have to give one star because of the following: The drinking water is so full of iron it’s like weak coffee and totally unpalatable. They never mow, on weed eat little spots out. It is so bad a camper used is own weed eater to clear his complete camp space. The Mosquitoes are so bad, again because of all the high grass that a camper went out and brought back a mosquito magnet (trap) to help control them. The outside bathrooms are closed and not working. The main office where the showers and other working bathrooms are, is closed from 10pm til 5am, even though they have digital locks. They let the general public come in, do laundry and take showers. But the don’t clean behind the people who take the showers. There is no cell service to speak of and then there is no WiFi at the camp ground. Add to the fact there is no TV signal and your bored to tears. Again, the older lady is a sweetheart, but there could be impoverishments that would definitely make this a 5 star...
Read moreStayed here for a week in October 2021 after owner Richard responded to a mildly desperate message from me after 10p on a Tuesday. Every RV park around Fairbanks (including this one) was officially closed for the season but Richard let me stay for $250/week with standard ⚡ and access to unlimited hot 🚿. Drinking water available a couple of hundred feet north on the main road. Absolutely lovely folks. Easy and quiet. Wifi didn't work for me but decent cell signal on Google fi. Coin laundry available. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because the water is discolored yellow/brown due to high iron content and I just couldn't get over it. Hah - that's probably more about my neurosis than anything. Got lucky and caught the dancing auroras from Murphy...
