I really want to like this place. We've been 3 times and the food is really good. However, no one has ever greeted us when we walk up to the counter and the hostess is either not present or acting very flustered.
Our first trip there was good, second trip was better, third trip ended an hour after we arrived but left without getting our food (had somewhere to be so we left and just called in pizza):
Third trip: waited 5 min to be greeted (literally no one was at the hostess stand and multiple employees walked by and said nothing to us) then got our table and were not greeted by wait staff for another 5-10 min and waitress seemed annoyed when she finally came over. We ordered and 40 min later we did not have our food. Manager came about 20 min in and apologized, saying there was a large party upstairs, which was appreciated, and assured us our food was "on the way" soon. Waitress came by and asked if we wanted an appetizer (why would that suddenly come faster than the food we already ordered...?, we said no thank you but appreciated the offer). 20 min later, still no food. Asked for a refill on a soda we ordered and 10 min later it was still sitting empty on our table... that did it for us, we just left a few bucks on the table and left. This was clearly a kitchen problem but front of house staff was very unprofessional. They seem understaffed and poorly prepared. We weren't upset about the slow food necessarily but we didn't have all day to wait around and it was just so poorly managed from...

The bad-- the food and management. The food was overall, not good, and overpriced. I had the fish and chips, my old time favorite from Silver Gulch, and fried pickle spears. It's not good. It's very frozen tasting [not like it used to be], it was very cold when it came out, and very flavorless. My coleslaw looked like it had a film on it from sitting for so long. The pickle spears were very bland, and very cold. Everything was served on a wilted bed of lettuce. My friends had the steak with mashed potatoes and carrots. They were also cold and the flavor was not good. We weren't asked if everything was good, or if the food was tasting okay. Lastly, a runner tried delivering food to our table, when the [presumed?] manager came out and started yelling at her in front of the whole dining room, and proceeded to berate the waitstaff as he was walking back into the kitchen. It was the wrong table, but also super rude and inappropriate to berate the staff like that in general, but especially in front of customers. My waitress still got a 20% tip all around-- I can't put the blame on her. My total time at Silver Gulch was 2 1/2 hours. It took 30mins to get our first beers, 60mins to get our cold appetizer, and 90mins to get our cold entrees. Overall, I may go back to sit at the bar for beers only, but...
Read moreLocated just 10 miles outside of Fairbanks in the small mining community of Fox, this brewery is the northernmost brewery in the United States! Making Silver Gulch Brewing a can't miss brewery for like-minded beerventurers who want to get the accolade on their maps.
The standout beer of our visit was the "Old 55 Pale Ale", a beer carefully balancing maltyness with a delicate dusting of hop flavor (Citra and Cascade). After a small pour of it, we understand why it’s a local favorite. Smooth, flavorful, and perfect for sipping alongside an order of their delicious hushpuppies.
The brewery itself is spacious and inviting, with a warm, family-friendly atmosphere that makes it a great stop after a morning of exploring Fairbanks or the nearby Gold Dredge 8 Mine tour. Open since 1998, Silver Gulch combines its mining-town roots with a love of craft beer, producing 24-barrel batches that reflect years of brewing expertise.
Not a fan of their beer? Silver Gulch also has a wide selection of other craft and macro beers as well!
Their motto, “Where the People are Unusual and the Beer is Unusually Good,” captures the spirit of the place. Whether you’re here for a pint, a meal, or just to say you’ve visited America’s northernmost brewery, Silver Gulch Brewing delivers...
