Julie’s place is great!! Cabin is massive and looks even bigger and better in person. It is a little over 3.5hr drive from Harry Reid Airport (Vegas). She is reachable by text 24/7.
The cabin is near the EAST Entrance of the park (40 min drive). The line on the East side is about 1/4 the time compared to South side. For example, last time I had to wait in line for 20 min at the East Entrance compared to 1.5hrs at the South Entrance. The drive from East Entrance to the visitor center will be 30-40 min. So essentially, even though there is more driving from East side to get to the visitor center, the time is equal.
Some other helpful information. — It is a 20-30 minute drive to a couple slot canyons before the East Entrance of Zion —- The Canyon outlook trail is on the east side right by the tunnel. So this allows some flexibility… if the parking lot is packed on the way to the visitor center, you have the option of checking again on the way back to the cabin.
Tip: when returning to cabin from Zion after 7pm, you can still go through the tunnel to exit on east side! For some reason, after 7pm, google maps will tell you to go through the south exit and loop around the park...
Read moreMy 2 friends and I were on a 10 day bike trip and google maps had navigated us the wrong way to Bryce Canyon. Had it been a few months later, the snow would’ve been melted and the temps would’ve been better to make camping outside appropriate. However, the night we arrived I Alton, it was 30 degrees with gusty winds and we did t realize the town had any services. Julie had accommodated us at the Alton Lodge on short notice and we were so immensely grateful for this place. The lodge is quaint and cozy. It has everything you need to make you up feel welcome! Our friends told us in Escalante a few days later that if we have gone up the backside of Bryce Canyon, we wouldn’t have made it to our next few days destinations due to the amount of snow and tough gravel riding. Thus, some Devine intervention occurred and made it possible to stay at the Alton Lodge. Thank you Julie and Wade for your hospitality and for willing to accommodate us on such short notice. This story was told on numerous occasions for the next 7 days of our adventure and will live on well past that. Cheers ! - McKenna,...
