We booked this hotel in October of 2021. We booked their meeting room and we had 8 other guests who booked a room as well.
When I called the right number of rooms were not booked and luckily I got a room before they went to sold out status.
When checking in the staff person was rude to me when I made a comment about their phones just to let them know they were not working correctly.
A family member went down to check in as they had arrived later and they requested that their room charge and name be put into their own name (which i was told was possible). Right off the bad she was dropping the Fbomb about how people don't do their jobs and she gets sick of it.
She started becoming more and more agitated and told him that she could not switch it over and started getting loud. When that happened, my family member started to record for his safety and she literally tried to smack his phone out of his hand whole stating it is completely illegal to film anyone.
We have this on video. My brother said he was going to leave it alone for the evening as it was his wife's birthday and he did not want to ruin her night.
I went down to speak to the manager the next morning and was met with an attitude right away. When I asked her if she thought it was okay for staff to attempt to smack a phone out of a customers hand she excised the behavior and said he should not have been recording as that was not ok.
Our room smelled awful, 2 out of the 3 lamps did not work, you could not get any cool air in the room unless you turned it down to 60 and that is obviously not what we wanted either.
The meeting room we rented was full of mold and had a very wet feel to it. There was visible mold on the ceiling, the walls and in the windows.
I would recommend fully checking out a place and reading not only good reviews but also bad ones as sometimes when people leave good reviews they can be paid reviews or are from people who did nothing outside of spending the night.
The physical incident with the staff and my family member will be reported to the appropriate...
Read moreMy stay was related to my son's wedding, which took place June 13. Due to COVID-19, many of our original plans were upended and modified, including two AirBnB reservations which cancelled unexpectedly. As a contingency, I decided to explore local hotels to see what alternatives were available.
I first called BW University Park in Ames, and spoke to Becca Preston via phone about my situation. I must say, as a BW Diamond member and frequent traveler, I’ve never been more impressed or pleased with a customer service agent than I was with service and attention I received from Becca. She listened carefully to my situation and specific needs of different guests, offered a special rate for a group of six rooms, and explained everything from amenities to check-in information with perfect clarity and attention to detail. I must stress again, I have stayed in properties all over the world, from budget establishments to five-star resorts, and Becca provided the best service I have ever received.
And when she knew she would be absent, she delegated to her associates, Kendall and Mercedes, who continued to offer excellent service. Even when all we needed was napkins for a carry-out meal we enjoyed as a family in the hotel lobby (Mercedes noticed this and provided before we even asked), it did not go unnoticed. All three were very patient with our large group, and displayed a consistently positive and pleasant attitude during our stay. You have a real gem of an employee in Becca, and Kendall and Mercedes deserve similar praise.
Thank you Becca, Kendall, and Mercedes, for a wonderful stay and for representing the Best Western brand in the best possible...
Read moreI spent three nights at the Best Western in Ames during a recent business trip. The room appears have been renovated within the past two or three years, and was clean and comfortable. All furnishings are new, including television and bed. The bed, pillows and linens were reasonably comfortable for an economy-level hotel; sleep quality was good.
The breakfast was also unexpectedly good for an economy-level hotel. Yogurt bar with 8 or 10 good toppings; eggs and bacon; selection of bagels and pastries; waffle maker; cereal; juices and milk. Pleased with the offerings.
I utilized the fitness facility, which was slightly above average for a hotel, and better than most economy hotels I've stayed at. While it only had three cardio machines, there was a new set of free weights with a bench, as well as a multi-use cable weight machine; mirrors, rubber floor, water and towels available. There is also a small pool and hot tub, which I did not utilize.
The location is nothing special, right off the interstate with no desireable restaurants or anything nearby. Easy and short drive to ISU Campus, and adjacent to Business Park. Not walkable to anything. If you walk/run from the rear of the property and to the East through the business park (no sidewalks, about half a mile) there is access to a crushed limestone trail that connects to the City's bike/run/walk trail system. This is a very nice trail, and highly suggest it for runners.
The service was good, nothing particularly good or bad to note.
Overall, I was satisfied with my stay at Best Western in Ames, and would choose this over the nearby Holiday Inn or...
