My wife and I like to take weekend getaways once in a while. We live in Cedar Rapids and usually stay close to the area. We've been to three other AmericInns and have come to expect a certain level of quality - a fairly comfortable stay with a few minor problems and glitches. Not so with this AmericInn. We stayed here this past weekend and were amazed at how much above and beyond they are over the other AmericInns in the area.
For starters, we are elite members and generally we have to tell the desk staff this when we come in. We've never gotten a gift bag like we're supposed to, until this stay. The person at the desk greeted me warmly.
In fact, all the staff we encountered during our stay were quite friendly. One was pretty knowledgeable about places to eat in the area. On Saturday afternoon I stopped at the desk to let them know there was a minor leak in our shower head. They offered to fix it right away! At other AmericInns we're generally told, "no one is here that can fix that" if there's a problem. In this case, we didn't need it fixed right away, but it was nice to know they would have if we required it.
Most motels and ALL OTHER AmericInns we've stayed in, when we put a "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door, it is ignored by the cleaning staff as they tap on the door with their keys and even try to come in. Not so in Anamosa. Instead, we found a note on the door to tell us they are honoring the "Do Not Disturb" sign, but if we need the room cleaned or fresh towels, let them know.
Breakfast was the usual AmericInn fare of choice of cold cereal, scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, waffles you make yourself, but there were little touches that made theirs just a little better, such as strawberries and whipped cream for the waffles.
The only disappointment was the "fireplace" in our suite. Fake logs with orange lights inside to simulate glowing embers and orange lights that shone on screen to simulate a flame. We made many jokes about it. In other such suites the fire is usually lit by gas and behind glass. But, this was a small disappointment in an otherwise...
Read moreWe stayed on 6/9/22, our stay was absolutely great. We got in late. Around 8:15pm. I had made a reservation on the way there, the online reservation was super easy. Check in was even easier. The man working was super friendly, checked us in quickly, remembered not only his regular guest by name but us too. I asked about food as we hadn’t had dinner yet. He let us know that they had frozen pizzas they can make, as well as listed off each restaurant in the area that delivered to the hotel and until what time. I stay in hotels weekly. I haven’t had that in a long time! Most front desk workers just want to check guests in and get back to sitting in back. I unfortunately didn’t get his name to give him proper mention. We wound up getting a frozen pizza at the hotel. He was making one for another guest when I went down to order it, however, he said he would put it in next and call out room when it was ready. He sure did and it wasn’t long at all. My 12 year old son actually answered when he called. He was polite with my son and treated him just like a regular guest too. As well as complimented him on how well he did on the phone and how good his manners were. That gentleman is the prime example of true hospitality and deserves a huge pat on the back. I’m the morning we went down for breakfast. Everything was plentiful, hot, fresh, even the biscuits were soft and warm. Most places they’re just room temp or cold and sometimes hard. Not here! The lady working in the morning was friendly as well. When we checked out she genuinely thanked us for staying as well as asked us how our stay was. It was great having conversations with the employees and not feeling rushed and even hearing a little about the area. It also helps I’m a Harley rider and will definitely be considering a stay on a trip...
Read moreI was expecting to leave a great review here and I wish that I could...the lady at the front desk who checked me in was very friendly and helpful and the room appeared clean upon checking in, the pool looked nice although i didn't use it, and I was psyched that they have a bar although i didnt use that either. However!!! I found bed bugs in both beds! I didn't see them right away but when I got up in the middle of the night there were two full grown ones right underneath me! Agh!!!! I was so mortified. Examined the corners of the bedsheets after that and found other smaller ones! I'm a travel nurse and have stayed in several hotels around the area and this was the only place that I've seen bedbugs. The locals (other nurses I work with) actually warned me away from the super 8 in Anamosa saying THEY had bedbugs but I stayed there several times and never saw one, not a trace of one. The rooms aren't as nice there and it needs updating but definitely no bedbugs there! I was super excited that I got a good deal here at the Americinn for these 3 nights but it ended up being a nightmare. I've had to sterilize everything I took into that room and kept my belongings zipped up for a week in case any tried to hitch a ride home with me. I haven't seen any yet since I've left there but believe me it's very stressful to say the least. I informed the staff there and nothing was done as far as an apology or refunding my money, etc which was very...
