I love Pokagon, I just personally feel as if some of the campground should be walk up only, like in other state parks I’ve been to, Pokagon only has sites you can reserve which is great for those who plan family vacations and family trips well ahead of time, others like me who don’t necessarily have the means to make reservations in advance everytime will have issues like me finding an open spot during the weekends/holidays because everything is reservable online and gets reserved up to a year in advance, which kinda brings me to my next point, Dnr policy online states that for a site that is reserved online, if the party that reserved the spot does not check in by noon on the day fallowing the reservation that Dnr has the right to re-rent the campsite WITHOUT a refund to the reserved party (no-show vacancy) the officials at the park was uncertain of the factuality of vacancy rules and suggested that they speak with the park manager whom I called to speak to but never was able to get into touch with. Regardless this is still a beautiful place with many things to do to choose from, from camping to swimming, hiking, kayaking, paddle boating, fishing the inn has a craft room a gift store. There’s also a camp store that has a lot of merchandise and food items that you may have forgotten on your way in. Don’t forget about the saddle barn and the scheduled activities for the kiddos. (You can check the website for events and such going on...
Read moreVery nice, quiet park. We visited in early October, so we didn’t swim and the water and beach looked great. We walked through our section (we had site 511), and the 300s & 400s. (The 200s are non-electric.) We like to be a bit secluded but still fairly close to a shower house, so our site was pretty good and it looked like 521 would be great. Many sites are on the small side and have some slope. We also visited the 100s and they are up high overlooking Lake James. Again many are pretty tilted, but it’s easy to see why these sites are often hard to reserve. Site 111 looked to be the best. Restrooms were very clean with plenty of hot water, though the shower fixtures are rust-stained. We had a short stay and would likely stay again if we come back to the area…looks like plenty to do. Would have rated 5 stars but for so many small and...
Read morePark is nice. First night stay was good. Second night we had young adult/ teens being loud all night driving in and out of the campsite with a loud exhaust. Drinking and driving. Arguments between each other, pulling out wood from the woods with their vehicle. I would expect a little more security at night. This was just around midnight, and all around them was 3 sites all with little children. Maybe have a "family" area where people with little kids can be around each other so we dont have to deal with rift raft like that. Overall I felt like I was camping in the city with Jerry springer people next door, we did...
