Rolled into Camping on the Battenkill after a few hours drive from NJ in August 2023, and was pleasantly surprised with our campsite. It was a pull through for our pop up, with a sort of front yard before the woods that funneled into a path leading to the river. It rained on and off during our stay but not enough to deter our fun! Apon check in we asked to have some fire wood delivered to our site which they replied ,"no problem". Whilst setting up the wood showed up being delivered by none other than "Larry the Legend" the local fly fishing guide. Although I didn't know him at the time I became friends with him along with Joe the maintenance man as we have a lot in common. The guys you want to know! | My wife and I walked all around the campgrounds remarking on all the beautiful sites there are and how much space is between most of them. The river tent sites are outstanding. | The area outside the campground is loaded with places to go and things to. Dining in the area is also A+. Just down the road from the campgrounds is a small stand selling vegetables and ice cream. Wilcox's. Some of the best ice creams I've ever had and if you ever had Altamont (a former upstate NY farm) ice cream you would know I know ice cream! LOL!| Camping on the Battenkill I hear has new owners, I did not have the fortune to meet the couple who had it before the current owners but I can tell that the footprint they left still stands as an excellent campgrounds and will be making my way back as soon as I can. The only thing I can think of that wasn't to my liking was the fact that the paper towels were removed from the bathrooms while we were there, in place of one of those air blasters. | Just don't tell anyone else about this gem so It will always be a quiet and restful place for...
Read moreA great, quiet campground that is perfect for families. We recently made a trip with some friends, one of whom has been camping here for over 25 years. Though I could only spend a couple of days there, I’m already looking forward to returning next summer.
The campground is very quiet in every respect. There are no PA announcements and no golf carts aside from a few used by staff. Even people on other sites were subdued and respectful, though I realize that has as much to do with rules and enforcement as it does with the particular mix of campers there any particular day. We were on a site close to (but not directly on) the river and could hear it babbling by if you listened carefully during the day. At night it was loud enough to lull me to sleep in my camp chair.
There’s a small beach area along the river, along with several other access paths to it at various points. Though it’s quite cold, once you’re in it is very relaxing.
Here’s a tip: bring a few truck inner tubes with you. You’re looking for something with a 44” or a little larger diameter. You can enter the river either at the beach or via an access path between sites 14 and 15. Then you can tube all the way down to an exit point just past site 0, about a .25-.3 mile ride, depending on where you enter. Make sure you have water shoes as both the entry and exit points involve walking dirt paths and over wet, slippery rocks.
WiFi is a fairly new addition to the park and it’s quite restricted compared to what you might be used to. It isn’t fast, is limited to one device per access code, and doesn’t allow any kind of streaming. This is NOT a complaint, it’s more to set your expectations that it will be usable for checking email and light web browsing, but...
Read moreBooked this campground July 26 for my wife’s birthday on October. Called 2 days prior to booking to make sure late arrival was ok. Was told that it was not a problem. October 3rd we’re making our almost 9 hour drive there. I called to verify once again that it was ok. Was told not a problem and where all of our paper work would be. An hour later, Janet the manager as she told me about a dozen times. Rudely calls to tell me that she’s the manager and that I am not allowed to come in as a late arrival because I would disrupt her guest. Well how about the disruption she caused me. Told me I would have to stay somewhere else and to dey camp and that I would not be allowed into her campground until 8 am the next day and that she would only refund my night if I didn’t come until after 2 the next day. So we bit the bullet payed the night and came in at 8. Then on Saturday the 4th we get setup make breakfast and start to go about our day. At 2 pm she calls me to tell me that my dogs inside my camper our being disruptive. I which I tell her I have a camera in the truck set to go off if they bark. Which I will agree it did go off. But what she doesn’t want you to know is it my dogs are barking at someone kicking the wheel chocks out from under my camper. At this point we decided it was best if we asked for a refund and left. She was extremely combative and rude. During this she is on a power trip and is running what was probably a really nice campground into the ground. Do not stay here. I’ve been camping for years and have never experienced this. If you are reading this Janet you can get bent and have the day...
