ometown Inn in Athens, Ohio, is a solid choice if you’re looking for a clean, comfortable, and budget-friendly place to stay. It’s not a luxury hotel, but it delivers exactly what it promises—a quiet, restful night at a fair price.
The rooms are simple but well-kept. The beds are comfortable with clean linens, and everything—from the bathroom to the carpet—felt tidy and cared for. The furniture is basic, but functional, and there’s a mini-fridge and microwave, which is a big plus for longer stays or late-night snacks.
One of the best parts of staying here is the location. It’s conveniently close to Ohio University, downtown Athens, and several restaurants, making it easy to get wherever you need to go. The parking is plentiful and right outside your room, which makes unloading luggage quick and hassle-free.
The staff is friendly and welcoming. Check-in was fast and easy, and the front desk was happy to answer questions about the area. While there’s no elaborate lobby or on-site restaurant, they do offer basic amenities like free Wi-Fi and coffee in the morning.
There are a couple of areas where Hometown Inn could improve. The décor is a little dated, and while everything was clean, some of the fixtures could use updating to give the rooms a fresher feel. Soundproofing could also be a bit better—depending on your neighbors, you might hear some noise through the walls.
Overall, Hometown Inn is a dependable, budget-friendly option for visitors to Athens. It’s perfect for a short stay, especially if you just need a comfortable bed, a clean room, and a convenient location. For the price, you really...
Read moreMy husband and I stayed here for a week on and off for his job. The rooms weren't dirty, no bugs, nothing like that. The owners though, were invasive. When my husband went to work during the day it would just be me and my 2 month old baby. I put the Do Not Disturb sign on the door but forewarning, it means nothing here. Every day they would knock and ask if I need anything. Which that part I understand. What went wrong was the last time, right before we left, I answered the door and it was both owners. The man and his wife, no cleaning cart. She asked me if I needed anything (I never did because we brought our own things from home) and I responded "no we are good thank you". She then asked to see my room. I agreed. I thought she meant open the door wider so she could get a good look, yet when I opened the door she walked in. The weird part was she bypassed the whole room; didn't look at anything; walked straight back to the bathroom, walked fully into it out of sight from me at the door, then came out. On the way out, I heard her say something to the man I couldn't catch then they both just walked off. It was very strange. The icing on the cake and why I won't stay here again is when I told my husband about the strange interaction, he went to the office after work and told them he didn't feel comfortable with people entering the hotel room with me there alone. The man then lied to him and said it was only his wife, that he wasn't there. If he wasn't there, who was I awkwardly standing there with when his wife was searching the bathroom...
Read moreWhen I called they said the rooms were $60 a night. I arrived later that day and was told the rooms were $65.00 a night. Then he took my card and added some kind of percentage he could not explain and I told him tax in Ohio is 7.5%. he charged me almost 9% on top of it and somehow the room ended up costing me over 80 bucks! He pulled the old trick where they claimed the card doesn't run the first time and he had to run it a second time and then wrote down the number and information anyway. I've read some strange reviews about this place but the guy at the desk just kept acting dumb like he couldn't understand me and I could barely understand him with his accent. A day later someone used my card trying to buy $180.00 jeans online! Luckily the bank contacted me but now I have to wait on another replacement card. The rooms are okay but you could tell the place was run down with cracked walls and plaster missing, an air conditioner that could barely cool the room and a mattress that felt like it was made out of lumpy piles of laundry. It kept clunking like there was wood shifting around underneath it and I hesitated to look see what was underneath me. They claim to be renovating the rooms but I don't know who's doing the work because it's like they're just covering up bad walls and fixtures. I'd...
