For the type of lodging it is (they renovated an old roadside motel) it is 5 star. The room was clean, and the staff friendly. They have a separate building with 2 tables for 4 plus a couch and a couple of comfy chairs where they have a small but decent continental breakfast, something you almost never find in motels this small. This building also had regional interest books and some games, handy to have if bad weather keeps you indoors.
We had use of the fire pit and some of the firewood out back. Talking with the lady at the office, it sounds like the owner checks in on his properties every day, to make sure things are running well.
There are some quirks due to the age/size of the rooms, but as it is existing infrastructure that can't easily be changed I am taking it into mind when giving this review. However, because of these, this place may not be the best fit for everybody. When looking at the photos of the rooms, I could tell how small the rooms were, and we were fine with that due to the fact we didn't have much luggage (4 duffel/suitcase hybrids, a bit larger than a standard duffel). Because of how the window was situated, the air conditioner blew cold air where my legs were on the bed. The bunk bed creaks, so it's best not to have someone who tosses and turns a lot up there.
A previous reviewer mentioned the room as "dingy", the only thing I found that could be remotely considered that is that the bathroom fixtures have mineral stains, pretty tough to avoid when you have well water. The shower was small, but again, it's the space they had to work with. It took a little bit of playing around, but I did manage to get an acceptable shower temperature.
If you're the type of person who likes to hang out at the hotel room, this is not the place for you. If you're looking for a relatively affordable room to stay at after a full day of exploring the area and don't mind it's not the Hilton, it is worth looking into this spot. This place is on our short list next time our family of 4 is...
Read moreThis was an absolutely amazing experience! I purchased a package with the kayak and boat tour, and originally booked a room at the Inn. After looking at both the Yurt and room, we were able to upgrade to the Yurt.
First. I want to say, the inn room was absolutely beautiful and clean. If we weren't able to upgrade to a Yurt, we would have still been extremely happy with the room. But, the Yurt was just to cute to pass up.
Second, the couple working there was amazing as well. Super friendly, helpful, and kind. They even made sure we had coffee ready at 5am for our 7 hour trip back home. They had great advice for the whole UP experience, which helped in making this vacation even better.
Third, the amenities are fantastic. Fire pits, corn hole, a volleyball net are just some extras. The breakfast area is absolutely adorable, clean, great coffee and a good selection of breakfast food.
These yurts are definitely worth the price, especially after seeing the other "glamping" yurts down the road. A private bathroom is such a small, but important feature. And I seriously felt at home with how comfortable the Yurts were.
I will say, during the day sun, they can get a bit warm. BUT, with all of the positives, warm welcomes and coziness that's not even an issue. They also have an air/heater in them, definitely helping with those fluctuation michigan temperatures.
I am so excited to return again with this amazing experience. They were so organized with the whole inclusive package too, which was the best. Everything was detailed, written out and they answered all 200+ questions we had LOL.
I would HIGHLY recommend either the complete package, a night, or even a week here. Having gone to the same hotel over the last 7 years, this was a much needed and wonderful change!
Thank you Paddlers Inn for such a wonderful experience! We will be back for...
Read moreI purchased a package deal on Facebook that had us stay at this motel. Just as it appears in the photo it is an old school motel that some updates have been done. New flooring and outside entry doors. They had 5 adults set up in 1 room that had a queen bed on the bottom, a single bunk above the queen which that was fine. But then there was a futon that was also listed in the room. It would be fine if it wasn't two adults maybe children would be fine. So we purchased the adjoining room for an additional $575 for 3 nights. That came with a full size refrigerator. The bathrooms were older the shower walls tile and clean the floors concrete and needed repainted. Old sinks hanging off the wall with older faucets that wouldn't shut off. The rooms were a good size. Plenty of space. The old fashion knotty pine walls adorable. The electrical was put in after the walls so it's running around the room with a white plastic cover probably to meet code. They offer a breakfast nook that's awesome. We weren't aware because the print out of the property that was given is so dark gray it was hard to tell. It'd be nice to make a clearer map. A suggestion I made at the office. Plus a copy of the itinerary would have been great in the email along with the reservations that attached the your Google calendar. That's helpful to present to the rest of the group to keep them in the loop. The Duck Pond Restaurant was amazing best thing next to the kayaking the lake shore. Thank you for everything. It was a lifetime experience and item checked off my...
