Booked our cabin months ahead over email and the phone as we were looking for a unique experience in the UP. Christmas is just a few miles outside the town of Musining where we were meeting up with family to tour the Pictured Rocks Lakeshore. The cabins (8 in total) varied in size but ours (#7) was well suited for 2 people + 1 infant. The small kitchen/dining/living room had a sleeper sofa so folks with 2 small kids would also be able to accommodate them too. TV, microwave, sink, refrigerator provided you with most everything you could ask for. Small table and chairs gave room to eat or read. The bathroom was larger than I had expected with a full sized shower stall, very small sink and toilet. Lots of windows (all could be opened) allowed for a nice breeze but there was Air Con available too. ||||Bedroom was cozy and just big enough for the full sized bed plus side tables. TV was mounted on the wall opposite. Big window there also provided a breeze but be aware the cabins are only about the width of a parking spot plus a few feet (you can park between you and your neighbor) so you can easily hear if you have noisy neighbors. The only downside of the resort was the highway noise. Large logging trucks, campers and loud traffic in general come speeding through Christmas on the highway (supposed to slow to 50) at all hours and the whole resort is only about 50 yards from the highway to the lakefront so you might want to close the windows at night and miss out on the cool air. ||||The owners/operators were very nice, and had a folksy house/office on the property that was in the process of getting a new coat of paint. I had confirmed originally that we needed a crib/pack & play for our baby and while it wasn't there when we first arrived, they quickly brought it to us from another property. ||||The lake is the best reason to stay in Christmas and a short jaunt down the drive leads to the sandy beach access which you can traverse freely in either direction for quite a ways. There is no dock but access for kayaks and canoes can be easily found. A few places to eat were very close by - we liked the Duck Pond a few blocks down the highway - and by all means tour Pictured Rocks while in Musining. We took the lake cruise and it was incredibly beautiful on a sunny summer day on...
Read moreMy family and I didn't have a place to stay while driving through the UP and found this place by searching in the area online for hotels at the last minute while driving. They had a cabin for one night available (This was in mid June, but I think they only rent by the week in mid summer) and I took it without any knowledge of the place whatsoever, but the price was reasonable and it sounded like it had enough room for our porta-crib. When we got there it was just after sunset and it was beautiful. We stayed in cabin #2 right on the shoreline. Two bedrooms, a bath with a stand-up shower, a full kitchen with dishes and silverware, a gas fireplace, flat-screen TV, 2 recliners and a couch, and an eat-in kitchen table. Couldn't be more perfect! There is an area right outside with a fire pit with table and chairs. The people were great and the cabin was rustic with modern conveniences and spotlessly clean! I mean really, amazingly clean! We were only staying one night, but it made us discuss the possibility of calling in to work and staying another night. I almost didn't want to give a great review in fear that it will let the secret out. We will definitely try to stay here again! Hopefully for more than one...
Read moreOur cottage was very tiny but it was spotless, compact, and contained everything we needed for our three night stay in Munising, It was perfectly located just steps away from Lake Superior. Every morning I walked down to the lake to view the rising sun. The cabin (number 4) was beautifully constructed with solid, expensive, knotty pine walls and ceilings. One quibble - in the living area there was a double bed along with a tiny kitchen table. A pull out couch would have been so much better and would have given us a place to sit during the day. If you're looking for a simple, cozy, spot while touring this part of the UP, the Yule Log Resort if the place for you. And if you get really lucky, you'll snag one of the two cottages right on the water. But the owner told us they are booked...
