Peace River Campground is a clean, rustic Campground. More like a state park then a RV Resort. So if you're looking for a manicured RV Resort, this may not be the park you're looking for. You won't find rows of park model homes here. There are a few modest cabins that ate rented out.

The park features paved roads, large sites, lots of big trees full of Spanish moss, and lots of squirrels. I've been told the squirrels are know to take small things. One resident told me a squirrel took his retainer off his picnic table. Overall, the squirrels are just looking for a easy snack.

Peace River is a laid-back, easy going, and relaxing park. Residents are friendly, and enjoy gathering over a campfire with neighbors to enjoy a beer and swap stories.

An important note, is that although all park RV sites have water and electric hook-ups, not all have sewer hook-ups. During peak usage times, you may need to be on a waiting list to get a site with a sewer hook-up. In the mean time, several holding tank dump stations are located in the park, and mobile tank dump service may be available. Propane is available.

Peace River offers most amenities found at other RV parks. In addition to outdoor games, a clean pool and hot tub, clean restrooms and showers, pool tables, playground for the kids, library, Chapel, gathering facility, a large porch with swings, you'll find many planned activity's.

One feature I liked, is that this park has an inexpensive, clean, laundry facility. $1.50 for 30 minute wash, and $1.50 for 60 minute dry. The washers and dryers take quarters, credit, or debit cards. Using a card, costs 9 cents more per load.

The Peace River runs through the rear of the park, which you'll notice is unoccupied. When major hurricanes hit the area the park is prone to flooding. Hurricane Irma, did extensive flooding damage to the entire park. Water line marks are still visable on palm trees. Although the park has made necessary repairs to reopen the lower area of the park, for some reason, the State is withholding required occupancy permits.

As I mentioned, the Peace River runs through the park. There are alligators in the river. I attached a photo of one basking in the sun. You will see people, even children, fossil hunting in the river. However, you will not find me or my wife in the river.

I have stayed in this park a few times now, and as long as I had a site with full hook-ups, I'd...

The reasons for 3 star is for the inconvenience, lottery chaos, and for not so good customer service. The campground is nice. Big spaces, nice trails, pretty river, nice facilities, friendly campers. We arrived around 4:30 pm the office was closed. We can't check in. Fellow campers told us the gate code was the same from a week ago (we were there a week ago on our way down south). We decided to go ahead and find a spot and check in first thing in the morning when they open. There were few Full hookup site available. We picked one and parked. The next day upon checking in, the staff said we should have not done that! We have to move! Didn't we get our packet‽ the site we were in is for lottery and there's a lot of people on the list waiting to get in that site. First thing first, we didn't know anything about the packet. We arrived there at 4:30 and no one there to check us in. Second thing, we didn't know anything about all the FHU is for lottery. We were there just a week before and it was first come first serve. Third, there shouldn't be any empty FHU site at 4:30 pm if there's a lot of people waiting to be on these sites. There were quite a few empty FullHookup site. Fourth, we have no problem packing up and moving to non sewer site only wished that they were a little bit nice about it, but instead they made us feel bad and that it's all our fault that we should have read the packet and followed the rules. We would have if they were there to check us in or at least notified us of a packet left for us.. how would we know!!! I was told that if we want that site we have to enter our name in the lottery the next day. I said no thank you! We are here to enjoy the holidays and not to worry about the chaos of lottery. If you want to enter the lottery, you have to sign up before noon then you need to be present when they draw otherwise you'll lose your spot if they picked your name. So inconvenient to move but we were happy and content on our non sewer site. Far away from highway! Our neighbors were nice and friendly. .and we specially like how big the sites are. Anyway, the morning before we left (4 days later) the FHU site that we were in and got kicked out was...

Thousand Trails Peace River is nice RV park with a distinct campground feel to it. It has many treed and shaded sites, some of which have fire pits. It is situated on the Peace River and features wooded walking trails to and along the river. The pool can get crowded at times, but is nice and well maintained. The staff is friendly and helpful. The office closes at 4:30 pm. It is located on US 17 bordering Zolfo Springs south of Wauchula, less than an hour drive to costal Florida towns.

All sites have water and electric hookups. About 40% - 50% have sewer hook-ups and 50 amp service. The W/E 30 amp sites are on lower ground, nearer to the river, tend to be larger and more park like, but during prolonged periods of heavy rains may flood or become muddy. The full hook-up sites are on higher ground, closer to the road and tend to be smaller and more packed in. The full hookup sites are still larger than what many other RV parks offer and many are shaded.

Be aware that during high season winter months check-in time of 12 pm is strictly enforced. RV's attempting to turn into the park prior to 12 pm are directed elsewhere, even if it is 11:59 am. All new arrivals are assigned a 30 amp water and electric site. If you like your site, you can stay and a once weekly pump out service is provided. Additional pump outs can be purchased. A lottery system is used to move into a full hookup site. You can sign up on arrival day, and you are placed on the list in the order of arrival. The following day, available full hookup sites are listed and you have an hour to look at them and select those that fit your needs. Be sure the site is deep enough and your slides will not be blocked by trees. Names are called in the order placed on the list. It may take more than one day to get a full hookup site and you must be present to participate. Multiple misses puts you back at the end of the list. Overall, the system works ok, but can make the first few days of your stay tentative if you want that full...

So I'd like to start my review with saying i dont often leave a review unless it was exceptionally great or poor. This was definitely on the poor side. I got 2 confemation calls and a text stating that the amenities were down but the river was open. The callers also stated check in was at noon. They even had a big sign made that said the same thing. This was not the case as we arrived at 2:30 pm and the room was not ready. We were able to go to the caben but not enter till 4pm. To make matters worse the booking page said this room sleeps 6 adults and 5 children. There is no way that this would sleep 6 normal sized adults with just the beds but the ac unit wouldent keep up with the heat generated by 4 adults in the room. When we were contacted buy "thousand trais" they did state there was no running water in the cabin. This was ok as there was a bathhouse within a 100 yards but it was not always open as the cleaning lady yelled at all the guests that they were not open due to cleaning. This took over 3 hours! This same lady was rude and ignored several questions I and my girlfriend asked. So no water from 10am till 1ish pm! There was no one giving out towels or other things that were needed in the room. The firepits had lots of trash in them from previous tenants that me and my party had to clean out. Sleeping was not likely as none of the mattress were remotely comfortable and the fact that the little ac sounded like a cummings diesel. And if your going just for the river, its super shallow and rocky. Also our cabin had carpenter bees eating at it. They didnt have anything else available so we had no choice but to spend the night with the bees. Could go on but im out of provided space.
