This place is absolutely our favorite. We couldn't appreciate the owners more and the way they are giving their lives to beautifully restoring Glen Isle in order to generously share its magic with others who will also fall in love with it. They are so accommodating and kind, and they go out of their way every single time to welcome us! This place isn't just a place to stay or a spot to camp, but an entire experience. The way a lovely old books smells... is the feeling that we get the minute we step over the bridge on to the property. The historical elements of this place are incredible - history lovers will be stunned at the amount of surprises that this property holds, and the owners will delight in showing you! It's a step back in time, and such a treat every time we get to be here. Glen Isle is lovely for everyone, including families with kids. There are beautiful cabins that are being updated in all price ranges and sizes, and many spots to tent camp as well, with easy bookings through their website or through Hipcamp. The location is less than an hour from Denver, but feels days away. This private property is peaceful, has friendly horses, many beautiful places to read by the stream or on the large deck of the 100 year-old resort, or high above at the edge of an outlook. There is hiking directly off the property and also nearby, beautiful walks, incredible views, and so much history to soak up. Our family comes every summer. Note: The main road is right across the river from the property, so if you come, allow the rest of the property to bring you joy instead of focusing on any traffic noise! We feel the river provides a lovely sound backdrop, and there are also camping spots and cabins on the property that are further away from the road. There is a bigger building with a kitchen for large groups/families/weddings/events as well. This place is magic. We give this place 5...
Read moreThis place is such a treasure! The first time I drove past here was in 2013 on a day trip to see Fall leaves in the mountains. I thought it looked so charming and made a mental note to look it up online. And then I promptly forgot. Fast-forward to 2020, when we passed by again on another Fall leaf-peeping drive. I made it a point to write down the name and checked it out online that night. I was amazed to find out how reasonable the place was, and ecstatic to find out they allow dogs. For as many dog families as there are in Colorado, it’s crazy how hard it is to find affordable, pet-friendly places. The location is absolutely perfect for folks from the Denver metro. Our drive took about an hour, and that was taking scenic back roads. Knowing that the cabins were historic, I was a little bit concerned about the kinds of things that come with that label, like spider webs, bugs, and dust. So I was so pleasantly surprised when we walked into our cabin and found it absolutely spotless. The rustic feel of the cabins has been beautifully preserved in spite of the painstaking updates that have obviously been done. The kitchen in our cabin was small and very cabin-esque, but the gorgeous farmhouse sink and adorably retro fridge were perfectly clean and looked brand new. We desperately needed a couple days of peace and quiet and some quality time together and we absolutely found that here. The scenery was gorgeous and I found the lack of a TV and wifi to be a welcome change. And the hosts were fantastic and incredibly friendly - from my first call to make our reservation all the way through our visit. Now that we know this little gem is here and so accessible, we will...
Read moreAs a child, I had many, many fond memories of vacations to Glen Isle with my family. It is a place that always held a special spot in my heart. When Glen Isle closed years ago and the resort remained empty and quiet, I reluctantly began to accept that the personal wonder of this place would just have to live on in my memories and it would not be an experience I would be able to physical share.
But MaryRuth and Greg have done something incredible here. They have truly brought Glen Isle back to life. They have somehow pulled off the delicate task of updating the cabins with modern comforts and decor while preserving the nostalgia and the spirit of the place. Glen-View and Evergreen are still the recognizable cabins from my childhood but it is clear how much love and energy MaryRuth and Greg put into restoring these building.
Since Glen Isle has reopened, my wife, myself, and a group of our friends have started our own yearly tradition of coming up to the cabins for a weekend full of good meals, good laughs, and good company. We just finished our second visit and we are already looking forward to next years visit. I am so happy to be able to share a place that meant so much to me with those close to me.
What MaryRuth and Greg have accomplished with Glen Isle really speaks to the type of people they are. The restoration of the resort has clearly been a labor of love. Their approach to customer service is genuine and kind. They truly want their visitors to have the best possible experience. I am incredibly grateful for what they have done to the place. Thanks for the amazing weekends, MaryRuth and Greg; our group looks forward to...
