I’ve been meaning to make this review for a while now as are trip has came and went. But I’d like to say this was by far one of the nicest little cabins we have stayed in. We stayed in the tiny cabin and for it being a 1 bed room with a pull out couch it really fit us 4 very comfortably. The ac wasn’t the best during the day but that is no fault of the host as it was the middle of august and 110 outside. At night it definitely got a lot cooler almost too cold. So again no fault of the host but fully texas weather being so harsh right now. So maybe bring an extra fan during the day. Also to add the water was warmer and lower than we wished for but again not the host fault at all. Unfortunately most of texas is in a drought currently and it’s really effecting everywhere but we did still have plenty of water to play in and cool down with. And kayaking wasn’t alot but we did get to see plenty of the area with the bits we did have! I would highly suggest wearing water shoes with a good non slip grip only because with water levels so low right now the rocks are pretty slick inside the water with mud further down the river. The wild life was super nice to see super early in the morning and late at night. No snakes or spiders that we saw only a few turtles fish and deer. Oh and a little black house cat who was super sweet whenever you had food to give. Other then that the cabin itself was truly great and fun and they seriously had anything and everything you could possibly need from towels to pots and pans to spices and a coffee maker they even had dog bowls around the camp sights for dogs and the outside showers and toilets where really nicely kept! Also the host was very attentive and quick to help any way possible! Truly this place was a little slice of heaven and will definitely recommend to anyone and will be returning again just maybe a little earlier in the summer next...
Read moreI spent four wonderful days at Sparrow Bend River Retreat in the Casa Avecita Cottage! The place was clean, fully furnished with everything needed, and the host was amiable, communicative, and helpful. If I had any questions, they responded promptly (the questions were for information, no complaints!).
I am a pastor and this trip was a “spiritual retreat,” for stillness, solitude, and silence. That being said, I didn’t ever even get off the patio for the entirety of the trip. I add this information to state that I never felt cramped and thoroughly enjoyed my entire time here. I also add this because I can’t speak to going out on the river, making a fire, etc. However, I saw quite a few people spending their time here fishing, camping, grilling out, etc. Everyone was very gracious, aware to not make too much noise, and the lights were turned off at a good hour to avoid any light pollution (the stars were beautiful)!
I cooked every meal in the kitchen, spent every morning and evening in the back patio looking at beautiful scenery, and spent a lot of quality time reading and writing in the living area. I am so grateful for this time and space and would highly recommend this...
Read moreIf you're considering whether or not to stay at Sparrow Bend, just stop because the answer is yes. This campground lies at the end of a back country road, nestled right on the Medina River. They have cabins, RV slots with full hooks ups, and tent camping. We stayed in Site 1 which was awesome, we could see the river from the camper. It's perfectly named, as soon as you get down to the river there are hundreds of sparrows that have created nests in the little canyon over the river. My 9 year old daughter, 2 Labradors and I spent the entire Saturday we were there on the River. There's so much space that it's really easy for all the campground's visitors to spread out without even seeing each other. Just 45 minutes outside of San Antonio, it was incredibly quiet and serene. Our site had plenty of space for us including a fire pit where a previous camper had left wood (got to love pay it forward in camping!). I highly recommend a weekend out here, you won't regret it. We'll...
