Our goto local campground. We've been camping here for about 9 years now, beautiful place, great layout, nice lake, spacious sites. We love coming here and it is close to our house. Reservations are easy but usually booked way in advance and have noticed while there, the sites that were supposed to of been full, sit empty all weekend. This is bc people book them too early and then cannot go for whatever reason. There should be some sort of confirmation and release if not going to be occupied. Another complaint is the pool prices for campers are the same for the public. I feel like we should get something for staying here as we are paying an extremely high price to camp. Which brings me to my biggest complaint. As others have stated, I would have no problem paying the major increase in cost if the park actually put money back into it. In close to 10 years there has been water added to some of the sites in Moxley, and a disc golf course added which is rarely used. The wifi is only at Old Orchard and if you have Verizon, forget about a signal. AT&T works well throughout the entire park though. Not a huge deal as we like to come here to unplug but nice to have. I feel like for the amount that it has increased, there should be water throughout the campground and improvements made to the very lacking Marina and playgrounds. Electric only sites in 4 Coves are $50/ night now compared to $30 just a few years ago and some sites with water or full hookups are $60. They are definitely the highest around even though we love it here. We have camped at the Outer Banks with oceanfront access for less than that. We will continue to go but will not be happy until...
Read moreFirst off it’s a beautiful park!!! Roads going to it with a camper sucks. Very narrow!!!! They charge $6.00 per person to swim a day and I have 4 people in my group. Very expensive for a 6 day stay. Should be free for paying campers and charge the outsiders for swimming in their pool. When we stayed for almost the week for vacation that we waited a whole year for and we chose Beech Fork, the state decided to apparently do some bridge work at 7:00 am with heavy equipment and wake up our whole campsite. This went on the whole 6 days. Lastly, I paid for total hook up. A storm knocked out power in 2 sections of the campground. Of course you guessed it, one was my section.I lost my food in my refrigerator and it was so hot in the camper. That was on our fifth day into our sixth and final day. Still no power when we pulled out. So anyways after I got home and got settled back in, I email them and told them all the problems. They said about the pool, we had reduced coupon books you could of bought to save on swimming. You’d save a whole dollar per person but, nobody told us about this so called coupon book until after the fact.I told them I think they at least owe us for one day camping since we lost power and our food. They then told me we could of moved to another campsite that had power. I told them I wasn’t aware I could of done that and ask him why they didn’t come around to tell the campers this so we knew we had options and I never got a answer or a apology or a refund for at least the one day I lost the power that I paid for. Beech Fork is all about the money, not the customers. We...
Read moreOnce you arrive at the park it was a nice experience. I would have given a 5.
However, be forewarned, the road getting to the park is one of the worst roads that I've ever been on in my entire life. It was literally so bad that I prayed the entire way in and worried everyday about getting out. Several hours is what we spent trying to find another road to leave on. We did find an alternative, adding several miles; a road that is not marked pointing to the park and not directed by google maps. RV's should not be on this road ever. In fact, this road is barely suitable for a small car. I did notice that many of the patrons were from West Virginia and super nice folks. Not many from out-of-state as I'm sure this road access is not acceptable to many. You would be hard-pressed to find a state maintained road this bad in Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and many others. I did notice that the state has approved 150 million recently for road improvements. This will not be enough. No less than a couple of billion dollars will even begin to bring this problem up to par. Hence, they need to get to work.
Our site was beautiful and right on the water. We stayed with a travel trailer and the area was super clean and quiet.
Such a beautiful state with many assets and attractions. Too bad government has failed the wonderful people of this state and robbed them of basic fundamentals. If you are from WV, please write your governor and legislators via email and ask them to provide safe roads. After all, tourist bring in loads of money and tax dollars that in turn...
