I was really impressed by this little motel in this little town! I went to little ol' Barre VT for a wedding with my date, never having been before and had been told not to expect much.... But!!! It was clean, had a nice balcony outside the room, cute and functional kitchenette, nice landscaping, and breakfast and coffee on site! It has definitely been updated recently. You can tell it's an older building, but a lot has been done to make it more modern inside the rooms. I have to guess the more negative reviews are at least a year old, prior to what seems to have been a much needed interior update. The room was bigger than expected and had good and functional furniture. I'd have been comfortable staying in that room for several nights/a longer trip. The price was reasonable for what we got and for as close to the date staying as we booked it. I was really pleasantly surprised! If I have to find something negative, it's that the bathroom lighting was a little dark and it was difficult to see doing my makeup and shaving my legs. The bathrooms are definitely the least updated part of the rooms, but it's really not a big deal and they're not icky or anything.
We got a lot more than I expected when booking, would definitely stay here again if I ever find myself in Barre for some reason! I thought the inn was going to be old and meh and dark, not great to hangout in, not pretty or cute at all, just a basic crash pad and place to take a quick shower in the morning, maybe even stinky (it wasn't!). Man, if I'd known it was going to be so comfortable, I wouldn't have dawdled checking in and would have gotten there earlier to relax before the evening wedding I was in town for! I mean, it's no big city fancy hotel, but it is a very comfortable, cute, clean, functional, quiet place to stay in a small town.
PS, No idea why they had a Wonder Woman coffee pot in the room,...
Read moreSecured a room at what I thought was Hollow Inn and Motel in Barre, VT-- it's really New World Inn, I believe recently purchased and renamed, but all the listings are for Hollow Inn. ||The inn is very dated and that was fine, it was clean which is the most important part. My room was simply massive for a solo traveler, felt a bit weird being in such a huge room. The bed was fairly firm, not a lot of give to the springs but was a decent night sleep for the two nights I was there. There was an extra pillow and blanket available which was nice. The shower was hot and the water pressure was great. I did not partake in the breakfast offerings as I was out and hiking early, so no opinion on that. ||The room did have a diffuser in it that was cranking, but I unplugged it and the overwhelming smell diminished quickly. The TV had a wide variety of channels and the balcony was a decent spot to sit. The small fridge, sink and microwave were clean and presentable and the surfaces, while worn were clean and tidy. ||Overall, the inn is on the older side, they still use physical keys instead of the plastic cards so that was kind of novel. The doors stick and some things you need to jiggle or pull tight but it was a clean place to sleep while hiking/exploring the area. Convenient to Rt. 89 and the area has a lot to offer.||This was an 'emergency' booking as my prior plans fell through and I needed an affordable place to stay to continue my vacation and this Inn worked out fine. I saw the gentleman who checked me in out doing landscaping and doing work around the place so it's a work in progress. If you're just looking for a base camp for your exploring and just need a hot shower without the frills and prestige of bigger name (and price tags) this place might...
Read moreThe front staff here particularly Luis is really great. He's been very informative and helpful for everything we've needed and every issue we've needed including changing rooms which was a non issue.
The pool and hot tub are both solid with the worst part of each being the chairs which are badly rusted or dirty however setting up your towels on the side of the pool deck is just fine and there's more than enough room for it. There's great restaurants about 7 minutes away in Barre downtown and past a wonderful drive about 13 minutes away in Montpelier. Seriously do that drive, it's beautiful.
The rooms in the 300s are solid. Lots of room, balcony, double double beds and a pull out couch and most importantly, two window exposures on both sides of the room. The other rooms without that are challenged since you either have to open the window into the public view or it's dark. This impacts the low 100s much more than the second floor and 300 rooms or those rooms above the check-in main building. Some issues with there being no smoking section so everywhere tends to have a lace of smoke in it but keeping the AC on typically helps with that - (unless your room is in front of smoker spots in which case the AC filters but still sends in smokey smelling air), and clearing out any humidity/dank smells in the summer heat. The smoke and dark room thing happened to us and switching rooms to the 300s fixed all of that.
The facilities outside of the rooms are always very clean and well kept though there is a crazy fruit fly issue. They aren't that bothersome though. All in all, a good place for the price, great front desk staff, particularly Luis, and a fun pool hot tub deck area,...
