I stayed in one of the mini-A cabins while doing a two day bicycle trip. The Base Camp Humboldt is literally next to the Southwind Rail Trail which connects directly to the Prairie Spirit Trail leading all the way to Ottawa, 60 miles north. They have three of the minis and three larger one room cabins. The larger ones are on the edge of the pond. The three mini units are tucked under the shade of large trees. The whole complex can’t be more than a few months old, everything looked brand new. It’s so new that Google satellite image from 2023 doesn’t show the mini cabins, the gravel trail system or the huge new concrete parking lot. My unit had a comfortable bed (linens are not provided) The shower house has several stalls containing individual showers or flush toilets. Remember this is a several acre camp, not a hotel, it’s even in the name. I missed out on the chance to sit on the porch or the campfire pit because it started raining minutes after I arrived ….sure appreciated that hot shower after a long bike...
Read moreThis place is amazing!! My husband and I came here for a weekend getaway upon recommendation from a couple we met at a bar back home. We majorly owe them for one of the best weekends we’ve ever had. Base Camp is clean, peaceful, and accommodating. The owners are truly passionate about this space and have thought of everything you could need. From the bikes and boats that are free to use to the newly built community center with a pool table and snacks, we were never bored here. We stayed in one of the mini A frames and will definitely be back for the bigger cabins which looked fantastic. Another favorite part of the weekend was the adorable orange cat that hung out with us throughout our stay (if anyone knows his name please let me know because I am his biggest fan). The camp site, as well as the entire town of Humboldt, was like something out of my favorite video game, Stardew Valley. ...
Read moreAn incredible refreshing experience to reconnect with my best friend and get the reset we needed. The cozy cabin, the puzzles, pool table, and games at the Bicycle Barn reconnected us with simple, organic experiences. Read in a hammock. Bicycling on the adjacent trail system offered us to check out a nearby town's stores. We even had a picnic on the trail at a nice little rest stop. The town of Humboldt and Iola are filled with friendly locals and offer an array of opportunities for interesting shopping finds. The hosts were equally as respectful for our privacy as they were friendly and informative. For those looking to reconnect with themselves, loved one(s,) or enjoy a vacation off the beaten path of stressful vacations, this...
