The good:. Oak Grove is a fairly large COE campground on Sardis Lake near Sardis, MS. There are lots of trees for shade, yet we were able to pick up our Dish Satellite from site 76. Verizon cell signal and internet was bad until we got away from the campground. Our drive was long enough to just fit our 38' motorhome and toad. There are quite a few full hook up sites throughout the campground, though not all. 76 is full hook up. The best loop, in my opinion, is the small loop to the left of the campground entrance. The asphalt was a little broken in our site, but we were able to level out, easily. The campground was really quiet and peaceful until the Memorial Day weekend...then it filled to capacity. Oak Grove is near Oxford, MS, which we found to be a lovely town with anything you might need. It is also a very doable trip into Memphis, as well as Tupelo, MS...the birthplace of Elvis. They have a great little museum dedicated to Elvis.
The bad: We've been here over a week, now. When we arrived, there was no place to check in, so we found our site and set up. No one has ever checked to see if we were supposed to be here, or not. There is a camp host site near the entry, but I've yet to even see them. As crowded as the grounds have been over this holiday weekend, we've not seen the first ranger patrol through. As there was no check in procedure, we received no map, no emergency numbers, and no car tag, so there is no control over who comes through here. There has also been no enforcement of rules... speeding through the campground, unleashed, barking dogs, etc. The grass was really in need of mowing when we arrived. Finally, right before the memorial day weekend, a crew came in and rapidly moved through in a hit and miss sort of way. The grass in our site is still well over my ankles. All in all, we would stay here, again, if passing through the area, but it wouldn't be our...
Read moreSite #65. The good, it's by the water with nice views, and boat launch. The bad, it's by the boat launch... If you don't mind boats keeping you from sleeping late at night, or early in the morning, then this is your spot.
It rained enough last night that it's obvious this is a good spot if you don't care if your seating area is flooded. Not sure why our camp spot wasn't cleaned before we arrived. The picnic table was particularly dirty. The best was the thick layer of cooking grease left by someone slathered on the table top.
Price is good for what you get, that's about it. The septic lines are mounted high if your space has one. You'll need something to slope the line. The campground hosts were very nice.
Very few OATV channels. 1-2 acceptable...
Read moreTwo faced host. He pretends to be your friend while he files complaints on you. I thought park rangers were supposed to be there to help you. Not here, here they harass you and will even call your husband while he's at work just for undue harassment. We never bothered anyone but a park ranger came by 2 days before we were set to leave just to make sure I knew what time check out was. My truck was in the shop and we had to use a uhaul to bring our rv into the park. They didn't like this and went to calling us the uhaul people. I will not be back there. Not to mention the HUGE bug problem. I mean something out of a horror film bad. The knats will swarm and bite and forget enjoying yourself outside don't even try to...
