Spent two nights at North Shore camping Co. We stayed in talt 3, our stay was just okay. The main complaint would be that the walk to and from our talt was long, muddy and the wood boards they laid down on the ground were a tripping hazard. They should really lay some gravel or mulch down on walking trails. We dreaded leaving our talt due to the rain puddles and mud. When we arrived to our talt the first thing we saw was a laundry bag left on the porch. Dirty dishes and trash in a bin outside on the porch. The comforter on the bed had what looked like blood stains all over it. We had some of the amenities they listed in our talt but very few. No clean dishes, no 5 gallon water dispenser, no coffee french press. We had to ask for all those items and a clean comforter and they brought them all to us no problem, but I feel that we shouldn't of had to ask. It should of all already been in the talt since they were listed in the amenities. The kettle and coffe cups that were provided were dirty and rusty. We couldn't make coffee in our talt due to this. We were excited showers were at this place but anytime we went into the base lodge bathrooms they were filth. Didn't matter what time of day it was. Floors would be wet/muddy, trash cans full, sinks dirty, hair in showers and toilets not cleaned. They listed having shampoo, conditioner and body wash but did not have body wash. So we just used shampoo instead. But don't list it if you don't have it. They said you get one free bundle of wood a day but when we arrived to our talt we had three very tiny slivers of wood. The following day we didn't get more wood, maybe you have to ask for it? Our bonfire at our talt was swarming with bugs, mainly mosquitoes which is what happens outdoors, but just a heads up to others! The chairs by the fire pit were sitting on uneven ground so when we sat in them we felt like we were falling forward, they should really level out the ground by the fire pits. Our last day we walked around the other talts to see if they were any any better. Honestly I think we lucked out! Other talts were far from the base lodge and parking lot. Some were even up steep hills, they offer rides to your talt when you first arrive but who knows if they offers rides all day long when you want to leave you talt and go back to it. So if you stay here heads up any talt that isn't 1-3 is a FAR walk, may be up hill, may be wet and muddy if it rains! I will say the staff was very friendly and welcoming. It was really nice to be able to use the Cove Point Lodge amenities, such as the pool/hot tub. The bed in our talt was very comfy! They could afford to swap out the pillow though, they were paper thin. If North Shore Camping Co. changed a few things and put more attention to detail in I would go back. But until then if we find ourselves in the area again we will be lodging...
Read moreWe have been camping the north shore for the last four years and have always enjoyed it.
We needed something different this year due to some medical stuff and we’re very sad when we couldn’t find any hotel rooms or anything in our budget. We knew it was last minute but we were still hopeful.
My husband happens upon this website and it was the perfect combination. We still got to be out doors most of the time, but the modern bathrooms to be able to clean up were a God send. And not having to set up our tent, or sleep on the ground? It was pure heaven.
Our site was one of the farthest walks from basecamp. It was perfect for us as we love to hike but they have easier sites so you don’t have to go as far. Especially if you are staying multiple nights, as you do have to cart your own water and such after drop off until pick up.
However I feel if you any physical limitations they will do their best to accommodate. The first site could be accessed by a wheelchair and there was handicapped bathroom. As a granddaughter of a amputee, my grandma would have loved this. She could have still taken us camping without injuring herself. And hope she was watching down on us.
I felt totally safe sending my kids to the basecamp (we did use long range walkie talkies but would feel safe without now experiencing it.) The kids loved all the fun trails and the patio so much. I appreciated how friendly and helpful the staff always were with my kiddos. Of course the only complaint my kids had was no playground. I just kept telling them the forest was the playground. But a slide and two kid swings can take up very small space and add a lot of value for parents when trying to keep them entertained at base camp.
My absolute favorite part was the saunas. I could have spent every night there, but my family had other plans.
And the one that probably should win first place your amazing bathrooms. Always stocked, always clean, and ample amount of anything. We never had to wait. I had to order one of your hairdryers for my house because they were so amazing. Never dried my hair so fast.
My husband and I were both impressed with the level of commitment and hard work we saw from everyone. From changing out the outhouse (so modern it had its own sink), to anytime we needed something. From more water, or getting us more ice, even when we were loading up. I felt like we were VIP’S.
Being in Beaver Bay we felt like we could get to anywhere we wanted so quickly. It was also great to have a grocery store so close. And if your ever in Beaver Bay and Zoe’s pizza is open get the artichoke dip bowl. Best I ever had in my life. Great pizza too but the artichoke, I would drive the 3 hours to get every day if I could.
Thank you for this amazing experience. Can’t wait...
Read moreCannot recommend North Shore Camping Company more! We glamped Sept 25-29 and enjoyed every minute! Heather did a fantastic job introducing us to NSCC. Abraham had so much information about the area. Jess- we were so grateful when you told us there was a cancellation and we could stay another night. Jason- thanks for the shuttle up and down! We originally booked for 3 nights and didn’t want to go home yet because we were having so much fun! Being able to stay a 4th night was fantastic!! NSCC has put a lot of thought into what you might need so that you are literally showing up with your clothes and food (we did bring our own salt and pepper despite being provided with little packets). The campfire starter box was adorable and SO appreciated- BEST fire starters!! The flashlights and portable lanterns they provided were definitely used! Make sure to bring a little propane canister if you intend on using the camp stove- we used it daily to heat water for coffee and to do dishes. We had amazing sleeps in the bed! Mattress, pillows, sheets and blankets were so comfy!! The jackery power system was great for charging the lanterns and our phones. The BREO grilling pit was cool to use. We enjoyed steak and brats. Firewood was always available and was reasonably priced. Access to The Cove Point property across hwy 61 was such a great bonus! Relaxing in the hot tub and then returning for a fire and stargazing before bed was lovely! Shower facilities were adequate. Always plenty of towels and bath mats. Shampoo, conditioner, and body wash are provided but we brought our own. There is so much to do in the area! We enjoyed a kayak trip on Lake Superior, hiking Shovel Point and around the Baptism River at Tettegouche State Park, hiking around Temperance State Park, driving up to Grand Marais, touring Split Rock Lighthouse, and celebrating a birthday at the Rustic Inn. A grocery store is located nearby in Silver Bay. There’s also 2 gas stations in Beaver Bay. We stayed in #7 and 30 during our trip. Note that the terrain up to your tult and back to base camp is a bit rugged (a few tree roots and a few rocks). I’m recovering from a knee injury so wore my brace. The paths are very well lit ant night and the staff at NSCC were great about assisting with getting heavier items back up to the talt. So grateful for the experience we had at NSCC!! Looking forward to future visits and to seeing how the property develops. This place and its people are definitely gems on the...
