I spent a long holiday weekend at the Belleview Inn and overall the stay was good. I called the hotel at 1pm the day we were to check in to ask if the room was available and if we could check in early. The front desk confirmed the room was ready and we were able to check in at 1:30 which was perfect for our afternoon plans.
The property is gorgeous and in a great location for the things we came to the area for. I loved sitting in the rocking chairs on the porch overlooking the pool each morning and afternoon. The breakfast baskets in the morning were a nice touch. We ate a proper breakfast at the country club one morning and the service there was great. The room had a coffee table-type book about the history of the hotel and the property which was very interesting to read!
I wish I could give this hotel 5 stars but unfortunately on the first night, when I turned down my bed, I found a significant amount of dirt and sand in the sheets! Because we had a packed itinerary the day we checked in, I didn't have an opportunity to turn down the bed until after 10pm. I went down to the front desk to let them know. The woman at the desk (I wish I got her name!) was as shocked as I was and tried to look for a room to rebook us - it was so late and I was exhausted from the day that I just asked for clean sheets to remake the bed myself. She mentioned rectifying the situation (I believe she said an adjustment to my reservation but I was so tired that I can't remember the exact word) but upon inspection of my invoice after checkout, nothing was comped or adjusted.
A few minutes later the woman from the front desk delivered clean sheets to my room and visually inspected the bed and agreed that it was unacceptable. She also mentioned wanting to rebook us for a different room but was unable to because there were people at the desk waiting to check in and there were no other rooms available. The following day, housekeeping remade the bed that I haphazardly threw together late the night before which was much appreciated.
It was a frustrating moment which unfortunately led me to question the cleanliness of everything else in the room for the remainder of the stay, even though everything besides the bed looked clean. Overall I think I would give this hotel a second chance if I had plans in the area but I wouldn't go out of my way to book...
Read moreThe facility and surroundings are beautiful. Unfortunately, the guest offering falls short of expectation. Our room was very attractive. The bathroom is very nice, but the smooth, tile floor in the shower was very slippery when wet. There was no non-slip mat. Be careful! |Beware that this upscale hotel does not have a restaurant! The 'continental breakfast' consists of a croissant and an apple which are left outside your door in the morning. You make hot beverages with a Keurig. Aside from being a meager offering, this process generates excessive packaging waste which fills the trash (apparently not 'recycle') can each day. There is a country club nearby where you may be able to book a meal, but only if you have attire which satisfies their 'strictly enforced' dress code.|There is a snack shop in the hotel with an assortment of offerings.|The hotel imposes a daily 'resort fee'. It 'covers things like internet access, a daily paper, bath robes in rooms, and others. Unfortunately, the 'WIFI internet access' has such dire warnings for users as to make you wonder what sorts of account security or computer problems you will encounter if you use it. Daily newspapers -- OOPS -- staff said they were discontinued a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, that change has not made it to their website. Bath robes in rooms -- OOPS -- there were none in our room. Apparently, you have to request them.|The bright spot for our visit was a lady named Lisa Marie who greeted us on arrival. She also works in the snack shop. She was unfailingly friendly and helpful when we had questions. She provided a sheet with recommendations for local restaurants. We took her suggestions three times, and we were happy with...
Read moreThis place, although still beautiful. Is nothing like the huge property it once was, and that is sad. I am so glad they kept something of this place. I used to love driving by the actual Victorian style summer homes that speckled the grounds, that I am guessing were lease-able for winters by wealthy northerners-that may have reserved them every winter(?), or starlets from Hollywood in need of what only the sea air and sounds of the ocean can only bring, which probably had all the comforts, cleaning and room service, as the hotel did, only via golf cart.. This place was HUGE. There was a beautiful golf course, as well. And would have been a dream destination of wedding venues back in its time, the 20s 30s, 40s and maybe even the 50s. It wasn't just beautiful, it was very southern and very elegant. I have to really commend whoever was involved in saving what they could of this Southern Belle, a State Jewel. It's a bittersweet feeling to be there today. But so grateful for the amazing history of and what's left of this once, place that took my breath away as a teen. Not many things have ever had the affect on me as this place, even as business slowed, she was still an proud and elegant lady. This place screamed southern charm and sophistication. I don't think we could ever afford to have another built to replace what has been lost, not find the craftsman it took to build and replace much of it. The individual houses, were mansions in their own right. I wish I could travel in time to this place in it's heyday, with a wedding or special event going on. I don't think there is anything else like to or comparable in our beautiful state. God bless anyone who gets to be part...
