I have never left a review but I feel compelled to because this stay was just not up to my expectations. I have been staying here practically my whole life, and I have never had such a poor experience. This is my first time staying here under the new ownership and I am disappointed to say the least. There is no housekeeping service at all, I didn’t expect much but I at least expected clean towels without having to ask considering there was a sign in the room saying to leave your towels on the floor if you’d like new ones. The room was visibly dusty and dirty. Underneath the bed looked it hadn’t been cleaned in weeks as there was a visible layer of dust, there was also a water bottle cap that we did not leave there. Me and my sister are allergic to dust, I could tell the place had not been cleaned because I was very congested the whole weekend and my sister had a rash on her face by the end of our stay. The bathtub in the bathroom was flimsy and felt like it was poorly covered up. The ashtray at both entrances that are overflowing with cigarette butts. A tjmaxx receipt was left in the downstairs common area for the entire duration of our stay. A light fixture in the room did not work. A rag was shoved behind a stack of books, not sure if it was clean or not. The dining area was full of crumbs and there was a used napkin from dinner the night before left under a table. The bar area was a dog kennel/child care center during the day. It was closed off via a baby gate and there were toys strewn about in the a nearby corner. The innkeeper was not friendly at all, she really did not want to be bothered. She lacked basic customer service skills. We said good morning to her and no response. The only good thing about our stay was the breakfast. The morning waitstaff were very friendly and attentive. The breakfast was good, and the portion sizes were big. Overall, very disappointing, I will not be staying here again unless some...
Read moreAs another reviewer noted, this business is running a classic bait-and-switch scam, whereby it lures customers with photos of a quaint New England inn, only to provide them with horrible accommodations in a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT BUILDING upon arrival.
To clarify, the inn that is featured in the photos (or at least the exterior facade of the inn) does exist. However, upon arrival, we were given a room in "The Annex," which is a completely separate building to the left of the inn. While climbing up the steps to our third-floor room, we noticed enormous spiderwebs that spanned several doorways, which was not a good sign. Immediately upon opening the door to the room, we were overwhelmed by a horrible, musty smell that likely came from the maroon carpet that looked as though it was installed in the 1970s. We had to open the door to the balcony (on a warm August day) in an attempt to mitigate the smell. There was an extremely thick layer of dust over all of the furniture, including the bed frame, which suggested that the room had not been dusted in months. The comforters on the beds were so yellow and dingy that we started checking for bed bugs before we put any of our belongings on the beds. We ended up putting all of our belongings on top of a table and wearing shoes at all times when we were in the room because we did not want anything to touch the floor.
We were supposed to eat dinner in the Inn's dining room, but we were so repulsed by the state of our room that we cancelled our reservation. The very thought of eating there made us nauseous. If we could have found a room anywhere else, we would have left, but unfortunately all of the surrounding hotels were booked.
DO NOT STAY HERE. Your money will be much better spent at one of the charming bed and breakfasts in Bethlehem, Whitefield, or...
Read moreThis place is conveniently located near tons of great hiking! It's also close to great shops and restaurants in nearby Littleton. There seems to be only positive reviews, so when I saw the great price, I booked immediately. We brought our dog so we stayed in the annex. Not sure if that's where the discrepancy lies, but it was not all rainbows and unicorns there. The lamp had no light bulb, the window wouldn't open, the shower curtain had that pink slimy bacteria stain all over the bottom, there were balls of fur in several places on the carpet, and it smelled like a kennel. The room had definitely been cleaned because there were vacuum marks on the rug and the bed linens were clean, but either the vacuum needs to be replaced or the rug has to go. Maybe both. Bleach the inner fabric shower curtains! Put a bulb in the light. Ehh, the window not working wouldn't normally be a deal breaker, but we had to sleep with the porch door open due to the smell! Outside between the fire pit and annex was a bunch of junk, which was kind of an eye sore. The quaint New England charm you see in the photos isn't what the annex looked like. I feel terrible leaving a bad review, but I feel like people should know that if you bring a pet, you'll be in the annex and it's very outdated and needs a really deep clean. That said, the little river was the saving grace for this place! Having that wonderful view and delightful sound lull you to sleep made this an okay stay. Also, the staff we interacted with...
