The ONLY perk of this motel is the beautiful location. We originally booked a 2 bedroom apartment through booking. When we arrived at the motel we were told we needed to be downgraded to a 1 bedroom. 4 of us in 1 room with a queen bed and a single twin bed (they gave a second mattress to place in the floor). The reason we were downgraded was "lukewarm water" and "plumbers working today and tomorrow to fix it." Sounds fishy, but it's a down grade so we get a little money back right? Nope. We came to the area to find snow and found a motel that was really cheap and wanted to stay so we dealt with it. Fine same price for a smaller room, but we will stay because it was really cheap. (Guys you get what you pay for!) We get checked in and get our room and it's almost 5:00pm so were hungry. We go to the "full kitchen" and find 1 pot 1 pan, a huge mixing bowl, 1 spoon, 1 knife, 2 appetizer plates and some mixing utinsles, 1 wine style glass and 3 coffee mugs. Thats it. We made Ramen since we had noodles. My husband and I ate out of the pot (he with the one spoon and me with a serving spoon) and my kids ate out of the coffee mugs with a two pronged grilling "fork" that they shared. Whatever we will make it work. We finish dinner and my husband and I sit at the kitchen table (thats falling apart) and start looking for places to go tomorrow to find snow. My 12 year old lays on her bed and almost falls through. My husband goes and checks and the twin day bed is falling slap apart. Like 6 bolts in the whole thing. We tell her and the small 8 year old to swap beds for sleeping purposes. The kids get into the queen bed and start watching tv (as were still at the table looking for things to do.) The power suddenly goes out. I say thats it were leaving now! The temp is 24 degrees F and the low was supposed to be 7 degrees f. My husband goes and asks for our money back. They say it's just our room and they will fix it. He says she doesn't care we want our money back because it's been one thing after another and we're going on to Cherokee (btw the cabins at qualla motel and cabins are AMAZING! And so are the people!!) They flip the breaker on and I immediately start packing. I have about half our things packed (about 10 minutes) and the power goes back out! So there is clearly something wrong. They try to blame us having too much running. The heats on 72 the lights are on and the TV is on..Thats it. At that point my husband calls the police to see if there is anything we can do legally to get out money back. At that point "the manager" got an attitude with my husband and told him.we couldn't stay and he was going to call the police and my husband told him he was already on the phone with them, they argued for a minute and the police came. The police told us since 2 years ago when the owners went to wv that the once lovely motel has excessively gone down hill and that they have to come out frequently for drug and domestic calls. Said they would not recommend anyone ever stay there. We left with the police and are currently working on getting our money back. ||The motel is cute but very old and dated. The front door to the room didnt meet the Frame and could have been simply pushed and broken open if someone wanted in on us,there was a door knob lock and chain, no dead bolt or any safety features. The windows need to be replaced and we're very drafty. The stove was old and you couldn't tell where the knobs were temp wise because the labels were worn off. The whole place smelled like weed. ||||Look we like cheap but clean motels we stay in them all the time, but this is one, before the power issue and leaving that we would have NEVER stayed in again. ||||I will say again, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY...

Read moreWe were very excited about booking a 3-day get-away at Lloyd’s. We are in the process of moving so our home looks like a storage unit. We were looking forward to a fresh, clean space to relax. We chose poorly. We booked 3rd party in advance to get a $9.00 discount. The total ended up being $325.00. After our adventure here a $90+ dollar discount would’ve been more suitable… Upon arrival, after “I” greeted the staff, the lady said I owed her a quarter. I thought she was joking!!! She was not. Then she proceeded to collect an exorbitant daily pet fee. Their rationale for charging $25 daily for pets is that it’s comparable to local kennels. The issue with this is that our beloved fur baby did not want to stay in the room. He went everywhere with us. The room: Not bad at first glance. Cozy for price point. The stale, moldy smell lingered even after we incorporated air freshener, scented candles, and open windows. As we settled in however; we discovered a used coffee filter in the coffee pot. While trying to plug chargers in, the dirty, used KY jelly tube behind the dresser. Dirt behind the furniture was thick!!! We are now professional jugglers after staying here. As to not want to drop clean things or to walk barefoot. The bathroom: Adequate size. Not terribly unclean. The left side of toilet was oddly positioned right up against the wall. Not fun for lefty’s. The tub leaked every time it was used. We weren’t sure if it the shower curtain quality or an actual leak in the horrible caulking all-around. Housekeeping: There is none! We were told to leave our dirty towels outside. We were told no one was allowed to enter the room daily during the stay. Honestly, we’re not sure anyone was able to enter prior to our stay…or ever. As our stay progressed, we kinda got ideas as to why no one was allowed entrance during an extended stay, and we were ok with this. The caveat to this was getting fresh towels. I brought our towels up and got lucky someone was there to receive and replenish the batch once. On some days, I had to get creative and find my own because the office was closed more than open.
Remember I said we went on this get-away to avoid housekeeping. We decided to leave the room better than we found it. Glad we brought that full container of sanitizer wipes. It’s empty now…
The up side: Scenic grounds on the river side & a surprisingly...
