I recently stayed at Mile High Ranch for a few days and had an amazing experience. Henry and Rick couldn’t do enough to make me feel comfortable. And here’s just one example.
This was no ordinary trip for me. It was the first time I’d traveled alone since my husband died. I was very reluctant to go, but I needed to test out a new pet sitter. There were memories and triggers the whole ride down, and by the time I got to MHR, I was on the brink of tears. Henry came to my car to greet me. He said something about my being alone, and that’s when I lost it. Now a lot of people confronted with a tearful woman they just met, might feel embarrassed or awkward, but do you know what Henry did? He extended his hand through my car window and said, “Here, would you like to hold my hand?”
So that was the beginning of my experience at Mile High Ranch. It was followed by one of the most delightful B&B stays I’ve ever had.
Their little compound, complete with an assortment of chickens who live in deluxe accommodations and supply fresh eggs each morning, was quiet and welcoming with little destinations on the property within a few steps, such as a miner’s cabin, a secret staircase, several cozy seating areas, a little pond with waterfall, vegetable garden, and more.
And Henry can cook! His breakfast bowl was so good and filling I wasn’t hungry until dinner. And if you like chocolate chip cookies, well, Henry’s were scrumptious, made with lots of butter and cake flour.
The guys were always around but never intrusive. They gave you a phone number to call for whatever you needed and always answered on the first ring. I saw no other staff. They did everything themselves.
When it came time to leave, Henry and Rick both came to say goodbye. But I’d rather think of it as see...
Read moreThis place was a lovely, rustic surprise ensconced in a snow globe picturesque town. I want to come back to this place in the wintertime to see it dusted in snow. But in March, the air is crisp, twilight comes early as it is set in a little valley. The rooms are cozy and perfect for fun get away.
The owners are friendly and the greeting after a 9-hour drive was thankfully short but accommodating. We were in the room within minutes.
The suites have a kitchenette. There is free Wi-fi. Okay?! So let’s move on to its original bliss.
I have a large house and I hate housework. The room reminded me of my little apartment in my 30s, before I was married . . . or actually when we first met. Just enough. Two rooms. Two plates, two bowls, a couch, a bed. Perfect.
I am an artist so I loved the sparse but colorful décor. I felt at home. They are planning on future renovations to go with the town’s mining theme. I hope not over the top though because it is sweet the way it is.
We were invited to sit around the bonfire, but there was no pressure. And if we hadn’t been exhausted we might have taken them up on it.
THERE WERE TWO HOMEMADE CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES IN THE ROOM!!! Homemade by the owners. Luckily, my husband hates sweets, so I had these all to myself. I wish I had asked for the recipe.
There were a couple of little details that were so thoughtful: there was a bag of ice in the freezer. The alarm clock had USB ports in it to charge your phone. There are charging stations for electric vehicles. There was a supermarket seven minutes away. However, they do have a breakfast service for a reasonable fee.
We will definitely will go back and...
Read moreThis place is everything I didn't know I needed! If you are reading reviews prior to 5/8/2021, please note that there are new owners that bought this place and reopened like a week ago. So....think 1950s Adirondack Mountains and that is the charm of this place in its current state...rustic but charming. The furnishings are a little tired but the new owners are working hard to make improvements and have an amazing vision of this place for the future. Our room was quite spacious and had all the comforts of home, including a little kitchen fully stocked with plates, pots, utensils, literally everything you could need. The atmosphere is amazing. It's like a secluded little sanctuary all tucked away where you can just relax and forget about the rest of the world. There's gardens with fruit trees, a koi pond, and seating sprinkled throughout. Star gazing here is spectacular! Let's talk about hospitality! Rick and Henry are such delightful people. Henry is a model of hospitality, and made me feel so "at home"; accommodating to your every need with a true desire to make your experience as wonderful as possible. Day 1 breakfast had yogurt which we politely declined due to lactose intolerance...Day 2 had dairy free yogurt...this is Henry's commitment to a perfect experience. The breakfast overall was so beautifully presented. I have never stayed in such a hospitable place in all my life nor have I been somewhere where the pressures of life disappear like they do here. Henry has such an amazing vision of what this place will be, and I can not wait to come back and see his vision...
