My husband and I have been going to Tapatio Springs for many years. We even went there for our honeymoon in 1996 because we loved it so much. We always stay at Tapatio in a room or suite or condos...and have also rented a house. The room we stayed in this time (connected to the old guest check-in) was very out-of-date. The wallpaper was peeling off the walls, the a/c unit did not work very well. We like to be able to watch TV at night and our remote would not work the TV. My husband decided to go out and get in the hot tub and the fumes were so bad that it made his eyes and skin burn. He got out quickly and showered off. We like to go see the wildflowers the second weekend in April, and my husband will play golf (I ride with him in the cart). The greens were in terrible shape. We should have known something was going on when they only charged my husband half price to play. They didn't mention anything about the greens being in such bad shape beforehand. The first day we were there, we went to the clubhouse for a late lunch. It took a while to even get a glass water, and then we did not see our server for a long time. When we would see her, she would not look our way. We finally had to wave her down to ask for a refill on our drinks. It took even longer to get our food, but once we got it, it was really good. We tried breakfast the next morning and when we got there...there were probably 4 to 5 tables occupied (way more empty tables). The lady up front told us there would be a 20-minute wait, so we decided that would be ok. We really didn't have a choice...it was either wait...or drive into Boerne. So, we waited and started looking around at the paintings on the wall, looking in the gift shop. After 35 minutes, I went back to the hostess counter and asked her if we could please go ahead and sit down...so she seated us. Our server (different than the day before) just kept doing other things besides waiting on us, so I finally asked her if we could get some menus and drinks. She came back after 25 minutes and took our order. After waiting another 30 minutes...she brought us a bowl of fruit and apologized to us for "just now" putting our order in. After another 30 minutes, we finally received our food. We each ordered an omelet, and it came with biscuits and another side. She brought each of us one small butter and one small jelly. Before she left our table after serving our food...I asked if we could please get some more butter and jelly. She said yes...then she walked outside. Our food was good, but I just could not sit there any longer, so I went over to the young man cleaning off a table and asked him if he would please get us some butter and jelly. The manager (who originally told us there would be a 20-minute wait with a ton of empty tables) realized that I was upset and came over and asked if there was anything she could do. I told her we just really wanted some butter and jelly and that we had been there so long, we were just ready to finish our meal and leave. She apologized repeatedly. We had invited another couple to go with us that weekend and I am so glad they were not able to go. I would have been completely embarrassed because we had built the...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I chose this resort for a nice weekend getaway. The property is beautiful, and the upgraded areas are nice. The room was a pretty standard room, when I booked I was hoping for a king bed but according to the website they were all taken. Upon arrival it seemed that the resort was just about empty, so not entirely sure where all the booked rooms were. Parking is abundant. The first night we ate at the on site restaurant, the wait staff was great, as well as the indoor bar staff. Food was decent, however we opted to go into town for dinner the next night to find a better dining experience. The first morning we were awoken by a stomping on the floor above our room. This continued for at least an hour, then stopped, then started. I went to call the front desk however the in room phone had no options or information on how to contact the reception area. I know the loud people above our room is not the fault of the resort, but that of inconsiderate people, but it still became enough of an issue for us to avoid the room in the morning because the constant noise became uncomfortable. The first day we went to the double L bar by the pool. We were greeted by a bartender who we seemed to be inconveniencing. His demeanor had us second guessing if we even wanted to stay there but being as it was the only option, we figured we would give It a try. We were the only people at the bar. Before we went, my girlfriend and I looked up the menu online and had a general idea of what we wanted. The menu we were given at the bar had less than half of what was online. When I asked the bartender if the online menu was still available I was met with a very short and annoyed "No" we ordered a burger and turkey burger, both of which seemed like a frozen item that had just been reheated and covered in seasoning. My girlfriend ordered a milkshake, she was given a cup with stirred cheap ice cream. "F'real" milkshakes are definitely not what my idea of real is. I asked for a drink menu and the bartender said "we don't have one". Again I looked on the menu online and asked if he could make any of those drinks and he replied "I'll try" the drink I ordered was a "Strait Tea" which after one sip was not drinkable. We then had a massage booked at the Pure Sol spa. It was not bad, but for the price, we have had much better experiences before. The last day we checked out and decided to sit by the pool for a few hours before going home. There are 2 pools on the property, one of which has a slide and seems very family friendly, the other of which is a smaller and what I believed to be an adult only pool. After a few minutes of enjoying the sun, a woman with several children came and changed the ambiance. I am not sure if the pool was truly and adult only pool, but that was the vibe I had. Disappointing to be splashed while trying to relax. All in all the resort was a nice place. Given a better room, better dining, better pool staff, and better spa experience, we would loved to come back. However once leaving we concluded that for the same price and distance, there are many much better options available and will not...
Read moreI have been going to Tapatio Springs for the last 2 years for mine and my girlfriends birthday. First off, this is a prime location if you are looking at covering some of the best of Texas Hill Country you can experience. You are not too far from Fredericksburg, Kerrville, New Braunfels, Beorne, Luckenbach, Gruene, etc. I really enjoy the grounds they have. I don't golf but the course looks really nice. No other place that I know of has fire pits they will light for you that enables you and your family to gather around and have a good time. Huge stacks of wood are around the pit so you can feed them over the course of the night. Ask for the smores from the front desk and they will give you everything you need to make them by the firepits - nice touch and add to the experience that you will not get elsewhere - anywhere.
The pool area is nice with the gas fire pits, bar, pool and slide. We always go in December so we don't use this area when we go but it looks very nice and can imagine it's fun in the summer time as well.
The rooms are a little dated but have always been clean and I enjoy the more rustic decor. My recent trip the AC/Heat didn't work very well at all. It took about 2 days to get up to the temperature it was set at. Luckily I like cold b/c it was 61 degrees in the room although it was set to 70. It finally reached it but being Texas the next couple of days it was hotter and I couldn't get the AC to catch up so it was a little warm. I probably should have requested to move rooms or have them look at it but it didn't bother me enough to bring it to attention.
The restaurant and bar area is very nice and I enjoy that they have live music on the weekends as well as a huge fire place on the patio. The food is pretty good except for the bagged guacamole and queso - I wouldn't suggest ordering that.
Overall, I love staying here. There are Axis deer you will often see either on the grounds or just as you are coming into the property. We heard them "screaming" the first time we stayed there so don't be alarmed - it's a little weird but it's what they do on occasion. Whitetail deer are also abundant in the area so be careful driving the road as you come in.
If you are looking for a different experience in a prime Hill Country location - I would highly suggest giving Tapatio Springs some consideration. Not sure if we will make it a...
