Luxury and high-tech this certainly is not. I hate to rate this hotel so low, but I really think people need to be aware of what they’ll be signing up for. The hotel is what appeared to be an old Red Roof Inn that looked like it may have sat desolate for the better part of a decade. Immediately upon entering, you will find a mish-mash of furniture, some new, some very old and worn, ripped up carpet, and a massive crystal chandelier. Once you’ve checked in, they’ll walk you down back hallways past rooms stuffed with furniture and trash. I suspect there is no working elevator, nor can visitors enter or exit doors aside from the front door. It’s a good thing we were walked to our door, because we couldn’t get in. The door didn’t fit the frame and was quite a challenge to open and close. I was definitely concerned this could be a significant fire hazard.
In our room, we were clearly the first people to stay. The furniture, mattresses, pillows, all the bedding and tv (still had the tags and plastic on it) were brand new. The bedding had a plastic odor and the pillow cases had the fold creases that showed they hadn’t been washed before being placed on the beds. They had very evidently just sprayed a popcorn texture on the ceiling, which had fallen down onto the beds below. This continued to fall throughout our stay.
Although there were no bedbugs in the brand new mattresses, we killed dozen of little black and red beetles as well as a wasp that somehow entered our room while we were away for 12 hours. House keeping couldn’t have let it in, because the hotel doesn’t seem to have a dedicated team for that yet.
The window heating/cooling unit in the room had a big black “X” marked over the control panel. But it’s mid-October and nights are cold, so we had to turn it on. This was yet another challenge because it was impossible to read whether we had heat, cool, or some mystery 3rd option turned on. When we did get the heat to work, there was a terrible burning smell that made us feel unsafe to keep the heat on overnight. Apparently the room isn’t sealed from the outside because it got VERY cold.
In the bathroom, they had a nice new sink and mirror, and I will say they provided a very nice toilet paper. The shower was old and unappealing but not the worst hotel shower I’ve seen. We did not shower while there, but when we used the sink, hot water came very quickly. Unfortunately, when water was run in the sink, an absolutely foul smell came up. Additionally, none of the towels or wash clothes had been washed before staging them in the room, and they smelled very strongly of an unpleasant and overpowering plastic. In terms of comfort, none of us slept well.
Between the cold, the bugs, and the extra firm mattress and firm, overstuffed pillows, we were extremely uncomfortable. We also couldn’t walk on the floor barefoot because of all the debris falling from the ceiling.
Oh! And the free breakfast is not what anyone would expect. It was litter 2 full-sized boxes of cereal, some bananas and some apples. That’s it. I was glad we already had plans for breakfasts anyway, because that would have.been very disappointing to wake up to.
Overall, we definitely will not stay here again. The staff were nice enough, and it was very evident that they are trying to fix it up. Unfortunately, I really don’t think they are ready to be open for patrons yet. Much more work...
Read moreI had to get a room on a last-minute basis, and I ended up finding this place. I'm not sure what it was before, but new owners have completely remodeled it, so everything is pretty new. I got a single king room, and it was SO clean! The mattress was very comfortable, and the pillows were nice and new and fluffy. The bath towels were soft, and the shower pressure was so good it was bordering on painful. Mini fridge in the room as well, which was nice. They have a small continental breakfast area in the check-in area in the morning. Not a huge selection of stuff, but enough to make it super convenient. Fresh fruit, coffee, teas, juices, a couple choices of cereal and pancake batter for waffles. They have a "coming soon" restaurant and bar that will be super nice and convenient when it opens. The front desk staff are very kind and helpful as well. Some things to note if it's important to you: there is no elevator to the 2nd floor. It wasn't an issue for me because I had 1 bag, but if you had more luggage, it may be an issue. I will say the front staff did ask if I had luggage, so I'm sure they would help with that. The other thing was that, when I stayed, the ice machine was broken. Again, not an issue for me, but worth noting. I'm sure it's on their "to-do list" being a rather new hotel. Neither would keep me from staying here again. For the price, you really can't beat this place.
Some tips for the owners as they get established and are able to make some upgrades: the desk and chair in the rooms are very nice but it would be nice to have another "comfy" chair in the rooms as well for another choice to sit other than the desk chair or bed. Otherwise, I would say keep up the good work. Thank you for making check-in and out so quick and easy, and your housekeeping team is amazing! I would stay here again if needed, in a pinch...
Read moreStrange place. Seems to have been an old Days Inn that was purchased by a family who renovated the interior on a shoestring budget without much help from Wyndham. Wyndham appears to have just slapped their name on the place. We stayed here 2 nts as a cheap option while attendingmy daughter's Greek Parents Wknd at Penn State. All other hotels and Air Bnbs sold out. The positives: comfortable bed and fluffy white towels. Heat worked well. The negatives: Very outdated and mismatched decor. - from the furniture to the mismatched doorknobs, No hot water the first morning. Empty shampoo/shower gel dispensers. Cheap Dove soap. Cracks in the bathroom tile, old crumbling caulk around the toilet. Bathroom in need of updating. Exterior of property looks almost derelict. Curtains need to stay closed as they are mere feet from parked cars. No money put into exterior at all. Free breakfast is just adequate and that's being kind. Signs advise of a "restaurant coming soon, " but no construction seems to be happening. Picture on the wall in our room still had a sticker stuck on the front of it from the auction it was purchased from. Assumes that most furniture in hotel was purchased at auctions. We saw housekeeping cart a few doors down from our room when we left for PSU in the morning, but they clearly don't make up the room on a daily basis. Stickers cover items on signage all over property no longer available. Our room wasnt touched. Walls are thin and you can hear conversations going on across the hall, next to you and above you. Truck stop right next to the property. Conclusion- Don't expect much. This is a place to rest your head for a night but it's not much more than that. Kind of a dump that's been renovated a little but not enough. Not much pride in family ownership...
