I had a recent stay at Lynchburg/Blue Ridge Parkway KOA while on a quick vacation over the 4th of July holiday.
Communication: There was absolutely no issues here with the owners here at the Lynchburg KOA! They were clear with everything, very friendly and professional.
Check-In: I got a call from the front desk inquiring my ETA for arrival as it was getting close to when the front desk was closing for the day. I was going to be cutting it close to that time. We were able to put a plan in place if I missed their open hours. But, I made it in time so all was good to go. Very good first impression!
Cleanliness: The cabin was super clean! All beds were fresh, floors were clean, refrigerator was clean, and the exterior grounds by the cabin was cleaned.
Price: The price note was fantastic for what we got! Amazing deal for sure!
Campsite/Cabin: We stayed in the cabin CB06, which was amazing because it was secluded by itself down by the fishing pond. The cabin is located down a hill though, and the bathrooms/showers are a nice walk uphill. We didn’t mind, but I wasn’t super great in the middle of the night when nature calls lol. But, if you are finding yourself not wanting to hike, snag a different cabin or drive up. This was part of my reason to drop to 4 stars.
Recreation: There are some cool things to do there that the kiddos and adults would enjoy! There is a pool, playground set, horseshoes, cornhole, tetherball, air hockey, Jump Pad, a basketball hoop, and foosball!
WiFi/Cellphone service: WiFi worked only in the morning and late evening when less people were connected. Anytime in between I didn’t have any luck. I had absolutely zero cell service with T-Mobile in the entire campground….FYI for other T-Mobile users. This was part of the other reason for the 4 starts.
Overall Impression: As soon as we walked into the cabin and saw the lay out, it was perfect for just the 2 of us. I definitely enjoyed being away from everyone else and being secluded! The bedroom was nice and cozy with comfortable bed to sleep on. The loft had to pads that kids would enjoy but not so sure for an adult lol. We had a couch, table, chairs, mini fridge, Keurig coffee maker, and TV in the living room area. The area was really nice in general! There were several other campers in the area with the big campers, cabin stayers, and tent campers as well and there was no disturbances from anyone.
Recommendation: Absolutely!! I highly recommend this...
Read moreWe have been to this campground three times and plan to go many more. The setting is beautiful and close to the parkway. Overall the campground is very well cared for and the bathhouses are clean. We stayed in a deluxe cabin so we had running water and electricity. But we could easily stay in another cabin and been happy. The pool was awesome! The water was perfect for a dip on a hot day. The first time we stayed was in June, the second was later in the fall and the third was August. It's been fantastic every time. Phil, Stephani and Jack are polite and gracious hosts. You can tell it's a labor of love. I've seen some other reviews where people were not happy about the wi-fi or not having cable. Honestly, we go to get away so not having cable is not a negative. We want to be outside fishing, swimming or hiking. The wi-fi is spotty and cell service was fine to text and send/receive calls which again was completely acceptable. It's 100% relaxing and disconnected. It's a family campground so there were no loud parties and rowdy neighbors. The pond is fun for fishing, catch and release. The trails are fun, not for marathon training, simply to enjoy the outdoors. We found baby frogs which were so cute, thankfully no snakes lol. Oh there is a store for all the things you may have forgotten, we highly recommend the mystic fire, it changes the colors of the flames for your fire. So cool! They also have gem mining and my son was not disappointed. He found many beautiful gems and crystals and had fun doing it. They have added this jumpy pad thing they've added since our last visit, that was a blast. Then the big ping pong table under the pavilion. There is plenty to do. I can't say enough good about this KOA location. It's open, beautiful, relaxing and highly recommend it to anyone looking...
Read moreAn “ok” KOA…. Neat, clean, a pool, great dog park, friendly staff. Several issues to be aware of: (1) We had had mechanical problems and were at a the repair shop in Greensboro NC on the morning of our scheduled stay- hoping that we would be able to get back on the road- and in addition, there was forecast a “severe weather day” throughout the area from Greensboro NC all the way through to Lynchburg (4/5 risk of winds 70mph, risk 3/5 on scale for tornadoes, and rain and hail.) Well, I called to ask (just in case we were delayed perhaps a day because of the repairs) whether we could slide the reservation to one day later if that became necessary. The answer was a straight up “NO, you need to give 48 hour notice.” In our experience, (over 40 years of RVing) there normally has been no problem with such a policy change / allowance for a one night stay when it is due to a breakdown or weather. Of course, if it’s a busy holiday when the campground is full- we understand this is impossible…. HOWEVER, this was NOT a holiday, and as it turned out-they were only HALF full. Because of this rigidity alone, I would not plan to stay here again. (2) Do not make the mistake we did- and that is thinking that this campground is in or very close to Lynchburg! It is a full 25 minutes+ away from RT 29 and the town of Lynchburg. (3) As we did end up making it here for our one night stay, we were very disappointed in their exceptionally poor internet service. Was able to get on for about 5 minutes after trying repeatedly…. Then it dropped me and I could not get back on it until the following morning, and again- on it 5 minutes and it dropped me. Our Verizon signal was spotty here with usually barely...
