This was our first time visiting City of Rocks/Almo, and we chose this CG for it’s large sites and 50amp service… It was hot, and being able to use both ACs was a plus. The layout of this CG is a little weird with 24 pull-through sites, but half of the sites pull into the back of another site. So while I’m not sure how that would work if they were full, they weren’t when we visited. Sites are relatively long, and while the gravel is only about wide enough for the wheels, there is plenty of room to put slides out. Most of the sites will require some leveling blocks, but overall our site was easy to get in and out of. Privacy and spacing was fine during our stay, but we also didn’t have any neighbors, so your experience may vary. We enjoyed a really peaceful stay and had no use for our sound machine. The park is still new, so there is some desert grass between sites, and they are working on adding some trees for shade and privacy. It also looks like they are building a small fenced in dog area, but for now, there was room enough to walk our dog around the park. Our W/E worked fine during our stay, and while there are outhouses we didn’t use them. There is no WiFi available at the park, and while we are normally fine using our Verizon, we had almost no service without the booster and an inconsistent 3G service with (winds made it hard to keep our booster up all the time). Also it’s a little weird that we didn’t notice it initially, but over the course of our stay it became obvious that the water had a distinct smell despite our standard RV water filter. We aren’t generally picky and usually use camp/’city’ water for everything, but we ultimately bought drinking water for the remainder of our stay. The CG is conveniently located to City of Rocks, Castle Rocks, and the small town of Almo and there is a dump station down the road near the state park. Their nightly rate is $35, but if you stay 7 nights, they discount it to only paying for 6. I used their easy online booking website, and while the park is un-staffed, there is a self...
Read moreWe came to the City of Rocks to shoot the Milky Way as the location in the sky was perfect at this time of year. What we didn't know is that June is National Rock Climbing month. Soooooo there were zero spots available inside the park itself. After driving around for at least an hour and a half, we pulled into the RV Park to inquire about a spot and found they have 3 tent sites available! Score!! The location is just outside of the National Reserve and very new. They have running water spigots and a fire pit at each tent site and RV site. There are also 3 very nice and clean outhouses, with solar lights when you go at night. The scenery is just gorgeous! They also offer wood bundles for sale, in case you didn't bring enough. The man who runs is with his family is super friendly and on top of everyone who shows up, greeting them within the first 5 minutes of their arrival. You can check in online ahead of time, or just drive up. There are multiple ways to pay, one being Venmo, which I really appreciated because it is so easy. They have done a wonderful job setting this up. It is...
Read moreWe've been going to City of Rocks RV Park for 4 years now and it is a great place to stay. The trees are doing well and will provide some great shade but for now they make the Park much nicer to be in. The sites are spacious and the views wide open. As always, the bathrooms are clean and we love the western décor. Deer antlers for door handles and holding toilet paper rolls is interesting and the structure itself is unique. Just this year an outdoor shower went in. It has an on-demand hot water system that works great and the shower dries quickly. No having to stand in a previous persons shower water. The Camp Owner, Ross, is very friendly, very familiar with the area and willing to help and let you know about things to do. A highly recommended destination.
Just had to add that this year, 2025 when we arrived there was free WIFI and it is actually really good!!...
