This review is purely about the restaurant.
One of my bosses (and good friends) came to visit this area, and was staying at the hotel. The hotel facilities were honestly great, but, we made the unfortunate mistake of dinner that night at the restaurant as well as breakfast the next day thinking it was just a fluke.
The food at dinner was not good. I had the ahi tuna poke bowl and the meat was not fresh. While the dish calls for raw tuna, you cannot serve fish raw when it's that old. Then when my dish arrived I asked for wasabi. I was told they have none. Then the table had ordered a fusion dish roll that, ironically, clearly contained wasabi. The poke bowl was unbalanced and lacked a garnish (like green onions, ginger, wasabi), and had no base (usually rice). It wasn't a poke bowl and it wasn't good. I wasn't able to finish it. I didn't want to make a scene about it because I was there to connect with friends and thought maybe it was just me.
When we ordered cocktails, it was just downhill from there. My boss's girlfriend found a long hair, about a foot long, in her espresso martini. And her espresso martini wasn't made with espresso, it was some canned coffee nonsense. To clarify, the waitress did a great job handling the situation.
I ordered a "kentucky mule", and they didn't know what it was, which is fine, so I just told her to take a shot of bourbon, add some ginger beer, a splash of grenadine, and put a lime on it. I asked for buffalo trace. The first one comes out, and I'm pretty sure it was just some offbrand bourbon topped with ginger ale. I couldn't even taste the bourbon. In a glass. Mules are served in a copper mug. I drank it anyway, thinking it was just me. When it was time to reorder I said there was hardly any bourbon in it, so, I asked for a stronger version. The next one came out and I was pretty sure it was pure bourbon in a copper mug, but at least it was buffalo trace. So I asked for some ginger beer on the side to make my own cocktail.
The steak was okay.
The next day we went to get breakfast there, but arrived late so they were serving lunch/dinner items again. We ordered anyway.
Again, for a second time, we found a hair in our food, this time a much shorter one that appeared to be an eyelash or an eyebrow hair. I was mortified. These people had never been to this part of the country, and there's not much to do out here, and now I am concerned about what their impression might be of this area.
At the end of the night, when we went to pay for our meal, it was like 400 dollars. We had a meal each. 3 drinks each and some appetizers.
We spoke to the manager that second day and explained our horrid experience, and he was very sympathetic. My impression was that there was some new staff kind of figuring things out. He comped our breakfast meal which was only like 40 dollars.
Still, I will never take a guest to this restaurant/bar again. They're overpriced, their food quality is not up to my standards, and their bar experience is just simply unacceptable for what is supposed to be a high-class place.
My party was all people of some means, so it's really not about the cost, though that price was absurd for what we were served, but the issue was so much more about the overall quality control.
The guest service was exceptional, though, really. I still won't be back. I was embarrassed by this in front of guests, and now this is a story I will have to navigate when we talk about our meetup in the Cincinnati area, for...
Read moreI happen to like Marriott but this location is far behind on the hospitality range.
I initially checking in and requested for an upgrade and was told there was the ability to do so and when arrived the front desk said yes then changed it to no.
I also asked if I can just pay to upgrade the room to a executive status to get access to the M lounge and was told that it's not available on the weekend. Then when I asked another person they said it was only available to upgrade to that if I had Gold or platinum status.
The rooms are smaller than the other properties and they do not have a microwave either so bringing up my food that I purchased downstairs and couldn't finish at dinner so that went in the garbage.
The room you hear everything in the hallway. I barely slept. The beds are so hard. I was told that the pull out sofa was a queen and it was not. It was a full with a midget couch attached.
In the bathroom when I arrived the shower was filthy. I have blonde hair and the shower was full of a bunch of black hair and it was dirty. They sent someone up to clean it but I couldn't get that image out of my head.
If you want any type of privacy in the bathroom... you can throw that out the window. They have a frosted glass sliding door that doesn't shut so there's a gap and everyone in the room has the joy of listening to your bathroom experience with a large echo to enhance that experience. It's great when you have two boys and a man child with you. the bathroom has no ventilation and just painted over and not well maintained.
We came in with a group and they had the same experience as well.
The pool area we were only able to stay in there for no more than 15 minutes because the smell of chlorine was so bad kids were coughing and after a bit my nose was burning. Someone does not know how to balance the chemicals.
I ordered breakfast the night before hung the order ticket on the door asking for a 7am delivery after waiting until almost 7:20 I called down asking to cancel because I had to leave for my sons game. I had to make sure that I was not charged. The front desk removed it then they used that I had the wrong date. Etc ... they couldn't have called me at 7am or 6:45am to confirm. The other person said that they apologized and they had it ready.
Overall this hotel is not geared to family members if you don't have a gold or platinum membership you're treated like a peon. The property is not completely renovated how I have seen it in the past locations it's just new carpets and a paint job.
This hotel is mainly for corporate, business and events that they have on their property. The staff isn't all on the same page. I was very disappointed with...
Read moreFirst off I want to state that the hotel looks very nice and looks as though it has been refurbished quite recently. The main lobby and the main area where lunch is set up is very open and welcoming, with the skylights providing a wonderful amount of light.
As I was here alone on business, the fact that they had overbooked the king bed rooms and put me in a room with 2 doubles was not a big deal.the bed was comfortable and I slept well.
However the room lacked storage space, with no dressers or cabinets. The only storage space was for hangers and a few shelves in the entryway.
The bathroom lacked a powered vent which caused the mirror to fog up with even the shortest showers, also there are no drawers in the bathroom to store your stuff. And despite this lack of storage space, I could not find any washcloths. In addition, the bathroom door was a sliding frosted glass type, which when closed still had a massive gap between it and the wall, which coupled with the lack of a powered fan would make privacy in the bathroom from others sharing your room quite difficult. The faucet was also not cleaned properly and I found a stain on the bottom side which was visible since the faucet was flat and reflective.
The hotel does not have free breakfast and you need to pay to use the wifi, the later of which did not affect me too much as the cell service was good. The former also was not so bad as I was here on business, also the hotel provided a limited breakfast bar for the conference I was there for. However for $200 a night I expected to not have to pay for breakfast and wifi.
The hotel also provided us with a sandwich bar during lunch which was quite good, and the seating out in the main area was enough for us and several other large conferences to sit comfortably.
Overall, it seems like this hotel is geared much more towards business travelers who are only staying one night for a layover at the Cincinnati airport. The lack of storage space and the add-on charges of breakfast and Wifi point to that. The location is great for the airport but far outside the city so if you want to head into town make sure you have a car to do it. If I come back to the Cincinnati area, unless I am being put up in this hotel by my company, I would probably just stay at a Hampton in closer...
