Can't recommend if mosquitos are attracted to you. I was swarmed by dozens the moment I stepped out of my car. Then hundreds were on the hatchback of my car and swarmed me when I tried to open it to get my bug spray! It was very evident to me that this was not the place for me!
That said, it was a very pretty location and secluded from civilization! I think I'd love to stay here during winter when there would be less mosquitos. It was first come, first serve, and there were plenty of spots open for me to check out.
TLDR; COME VERY WELL EQUIPPED TO FIGHT MOSQUITOS! I couldn't handle them, so I had to leave this...
Read moreA nice clean BLM campground. Very large campsites, good for large RV,s too. And spacious, our neighbor is 150 feet away, awesome. This is the 4th of July weekend, and hardly anyone is here. More awesomeness.
Bring the OFF w/DEET, lots of mosquitos here. We're from Alaska and have head nets, I advise to have some handy.
Price is $16 a night. Half off for senior pass holders.
There is water via spigots here, you could fill your water tank up. There are also grey water disposal sites throughout the camp.
Unfortunately the credit card machine was not functioning, bring cash or check.

Read moreAn outstanding base for exploring the Steens area. Level, spacious sites, some big enough for the largest RV, most back-in, few if any pull throughs. Early or late in the season the campground is pretty empty and if you come in April or so the bugs are not too bad. Water available. No dump station. No power. Good biking in the Malheur refuge roads nearby or on the Loop road over Steens. South Steens campground has better hiking close by, trails lead up the nearby gorges (excellent hikes). Fantastic fall colors up on Steens in late September and early October before the road closes...
