I've really enjoyed myself here, and in fact would have liked to stay longer but they are booked up solid! This little gem is at the base of the Steens Mountains, and has everything I'd need without a pool! It's clean, the folks are very friendly and super helpful. There's an immaculate laundry, showers, cabins available, a well appointed store with a little bit of everything, w/ free movies to rent. The surrounding area is blessed with incredible views, and the stars at night are mind blowing! With close access to so much outdoor recreation, including both Steens Mountain loop roads, Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, Hart Mountain Antelope Refuge, The Alford Desert, within an hour of Burns for services, scenic byways like the Diamond Loop Byway, and The High Desert Discovery Byway, there are beautiful vistas in every direction! The historic Frenchglen Hotel is a lovely spot to stay, and the food is excellent. I've gone to see the wild horses in their different herds, found a new hiking trail to take the dogs, and learned new interesting history about the area every single day. When I've run out of essentials, the store on site has whatever I've needed, and there's another little store in Frenchglen too, for gas and other essentials as well. If I could pull it off, I'd stay here indefinitely! It's also the quietest park I've ever stayed in, and I'm super picky, so I'm really looking forward to coming back as soon as I can, with an eye on the birding festival in the spring, as the area is smack dab in the center of the Pacific Flyway, a very important oasis for all the birds traveling...

The name "Resort" is not to be taken too seriously. It is NOT a hotel, rather, it is a campground, with cabins for folks who aren't in an RV or pulling a camper. Nevertheless, for a campground, it's very good. The last time I was here, the new owners were working hard to get it rolling. Well, it's rolling, and doing well. The campsites themselves range from primitive to full amenities: 30/50A, septic, water. They're not all level, but they're still decent sites, although without a bit of privacy screening. The bathrooms are clean, well lit, bug free, with flush toilets and HOT water showers. There's a laundry with two washers and dryers. The reception office provides a little bit of everything from T valves (campers will know what THAT is), to personal items, a library of DVD's, souveniers such as T shirts and coffee mugs. WiFi is free and amazingly, considering how remote the resort is, still, I got 4 bars...and I don't get 4 bars at home in the city! ||Dogs must be leashed at all times. ||This place is designed for birders and nature lovers, people who are there for Malheur National Wildlife Refuge. We heard great horned owls at night and sandhill cranes and long billed curlews during the day. ||We had to leave early due to a family emergency, but I...

Everything would’ve been fine except for their B.S. reservation policy . you make reservations for a certain time but in order to secure that spot you must pay 30 extra dollars or they can move you from your chosen “reserved“spot before you get there , and that might not matter if you’re traveling by yourself or don’t mind where you end up but when you’re in a group You want to stay together , that is totally B.S. this is not my first rodeo and I have never seen or heard of this before , WHAT A SCAM ! They’re not gonna move you and why should they? You just paid for a reservation to stay there . they make it sound like they’re gonna move you so they can get the 30 extra bucks from you . Had an attitude when I arrived. Steens Mountain was beautiful. The country was beautiful. FrenchGlen was beautiful, but this starts you out on a sour note. It won’t change a thing, but I will tell everybody I know . Oh, and if you want to stay hooked up to the dump in your spot, you better bring extra hose cause they’re 30 feet away and up hill ! I would’ve given this possibly four stars, but they didn’t earn it. They cross the line by doing this. Better yet maybe the owners should look up reservation in the dictionary obviously they don’t know the...

Clean and well-maintained campground near Malheur Wildlife Refuge. Lovely high desert sunsets from the west-facing campground. Camp hosts were pleasant and informative. There is a small commissary in the camp office with staples if you forget anything. The bird watching here is incredible, and I intend to come back on fishing and/or hunting trips in the future. We stayed in a cabin. The place was clean and comfortable. Note on the WiFi: this place is remote. Real remote. I spoke with the owners about their wifi issues and they explained that the entire campground shares a 10Mbit wireless internet connection. It works, but it's not like the internet you probably have at home. You can check email, maybe even upload a few pictures. Don't expect to spend your nights streaming movies. Download any music you want. Verizon coverage at the campground is excellent. No idea about other carriers.

It is such a beautiful campground. I would stay here every single time! The bathrooms were always clean. We had a delightful time watching the bunnies early in the morning. I love that we had a desert view while enjoy soft green grass for relaxing and sleeping. **I didn’t realize the store is closed Sundays, I was waiting for 9am to roll around! So def read the signs! The Frenchglen country store was super helpful though, so definitely check their hours if you need ice, treats, or gifts. ****Edit to add: I just saw other reviews. Low ratings for mosquitos? That’s on you, not the campground. Pack what you need instead of blaming the hosts.

Completely overrun with mosquitoes. We paid for 3 nights and left at 7 am after our first night to attempt to avoid the mosquitoes (and came away with many bites). Do NOT stay in a tent here! Even with bug spray, it was awful for both humans and dogs to endure. The location near Steens Mountain is great, but they are completely taking advantage of everyone who stays in a tent here and even have a refund policy that includes not refunding due to the “discomforts of nature.” I’m an experienced camper and didn’t leave due to typical discomforts. This was absolutely the worst place I’ve ever camped. Never again!
