I was traveling through Puerto Rico by myself and each day getting up and looking online to see where I wanted to go. I had been in Rincon, and looked up beach areas south of there and Playa el Combate looked cool. So, this beach is different, and this has a lot to do with my review.
With most of my trip, the beach areas were typical, with a lot of traffic, businesses, and so forth close to the beach. With this beach, it was a descent drive through the country to get to this little village. This is not your typical beach town with tons of hotels.
I went to where the map showed me to park and there is not a parking lot. A few cars on the street in front of houses, and I wasn't sure where to park. I found a spot across from a restaurant and went in to ask if that was an ok place to park. Turns out, it was actually the hotel.
The girl was SOOOOOOOOO NICE, and for $15 I could park in their lot and enjoy their amenities. No brainer for me.
On paper, this is a roadside motel. But the way they have it setup, and how nice everyone is, and the fact that you are in a little village, vs. a big beach town, makes it really cool. I was not going to stay the night, but decided to just because I loved the vibe.
The facility has a pool, a covered area with tables, probably other stuff too, and has just a nice vibe to it. The outside area is super clean. There is a pathway to the beach.
For dinner I walked to Annie's, which was maybe a 5 minute walk, so there is a great food option close by.
The room was a motel room. But it was clean, had a mini split rather than a cheap hotel ac with stale air, and was cozy. It wasn't the Ritz, but the total package made it super comfy and a...
Read moreThis place I will never ever recommend to anyone. I went with a trained service animal and was asked to provide paperwork and some card and tag of it being a service animal and a card with a registration number saying that dog was required in hotel ... wth? I've never heard of that ... I provided a letter from the doctor that said the animal is to be with my aunt at all times and the dog serves as a esa but is trained to deal with my aunt's condition . I explained to the gentleman I've never had to show proof that the dog was trained . We had just arrived from the mainland due to the hurricane and never had a problem in any of the hotels in Florida. A lot of personal items were lost because of the hurricane ...her birth certificate , social security card and dogs training information. I contacted a lawyer about this and they informed me that information wasn't even suppose to be requested. My aunt was devastated of the rejection and lack of attention she received from this hotel employees. I thought PR followed federal ada laws. Guess not. It actually ended up being a blessing in disguise because after we checked the place out it's far from everything, it looked deserted and looked nothing like in the photos . We called someplace else and explained what happened and the gladly...
Read moreWhile you can't actually see the beach from the hotel due to the wildlife refuge, it's far more quiet than being in town. The walk to the beach takes only a couple of minutes. The beach is less crowded, and you can walk a long ways for even more seclusion. In November, the wind was less ferocious on this side of the island. We booked a "deluxe king room" but the room was hardly deluxe. Very large, but very empty. There was no place to put a suitcase if you didn't want to completely unpack. The room had only one chair, no desk and chair, nowhere else to sit. The balcony had a small table and chairs. Most of the time it was too hot and windy to be out there. All of the king deluxe rooms face the road. Fortunately the neighborhood was very quiet. Our shower had no hot water, and so they were kind enough to move us to the Honeymoon suite next door. If you can possibly afford it, this is the room to be in!! A 2-room suite, it has a "living room" with sofa, table and chairs inside, and a modest kitchen. There is a tiny slice of sea view between the trees, and you can watch the sunset. If we return, we would book this room. The other suites may be similar but we didn't see them. Options for lodging in this area are limited, and this is probably...
