This was our first visit to Keen Lake. We tent camped at site 145AA. There was electricity as stated and there was water. Unfortunately the water spigot for this site is a bit of a walk away, around the side of a large bush (not right near the electricity pole like we saw other sites have). Carrying water back and forth was a bit of pain since the picnic table was so far away from the water source. The electricity pole for this site is near the flattest part of this site but it was also very soft, muddy and wet. I have a long extension cord so I put our tent not in a muddy, soft spot but then we ended up on a bit of an incline (not super steep but also not the best. We made it work). This site also has no shade and it gets full sun all day. Unfortunately for our set up this was not ideal, we don’t have an easy up tent to put over our picnic table for shade so we baked in the sun a bit (we applied lots of sunscreen!). On the plus side our towels and swimsuits dried really fast in full sun. Also unlike other sites, this site does not have a little fence in between the sites to separate where each site starts and ends. And with no trees we had no where to hang our clothesline to dry towels. We made do draping our stuff over our chairs to dry, if I book this site again I would bring a drying rack. None of these things ruined our experience or our time at Keen Lake but they were annoyances I wasn’t expecting. Also parking up on the hill and having to walk everything down was also not ideal. Again, had I known I would have chosen differently. I wish the website had better descriptions of each site. The best thing about this site was the beautiful view of the lake. So aside from those annoyances we enjoyed our stay. We loved using the pool, it was very clean and a good temperature. There are lots of lounge chairs and tables to use. We didn’t swim in the lake but the beach was really nice and clean too. We rented an aqua cycle boat and that was a lot of fun too. We borrowed life jackets since I forgot to pack ours but I would recommend if you have your own life jackets bring them. The bathrooms and showers were also very clean and we appreciated that as well. Tent camping is fun but having access to amenities like that is a small luxury. We also enjoyed the many activities that were scheduled throughout the weekend for families to enjoy. My daughter and I had no lack of things to do. This was also a nice home base for us to be able to travel and visit some other points of interest (we drove to Claws and Paws Animal Park and visited Scranton). All in all I would highly recommend this campground if you are a tent camping family. We had a wonderful time and will definitely stay here again...
Read moreDon’t bother coming to Keen Lake unless you have an RV. I booked two campsites for my family and I based on their one tent per campsite rule, which is totally understandable and wasn’t a problem. What was a problem was that I paid an extra fee to lock in our campsite numbers because I’d been to Keen Lake before and they cram so many campsites into their grounds that you’re often right on top of the person next to you. I also had someone with special bathroom requirements with me so I booked two sites right next to the restroom. Lo and behold, about a week before arrival, I get a call that they’re going to switch our sites DESPITE the extra lock-in fee I paid. Their reason? Apparently, due to the weather, their “terrain changed” so now the sites I locked in are more suitable for RVs. So, they put us all at one site and only refund me for one of the two nights I paid for to have the two sites, not including the lock-in fee I paid to secure those sites in the first place. Upon arrival, I can say with the utmost certainty that they weren’t thinking about accommodating tent camping but that the sites we booked were bigger and they were greedy for extra money from RVs. The ground on the site we ended up at was 100% gravel. We couldn’t even stake our tents and we’re grateful the weather wasn’t bad because they probably would have blown away if it was. We were also grateful we brought air mattresses. By far the worst part of our experience was how far our new site was from a restroom. The person with us who needed to be near a bathroom ended up having an accident because they were unable to find the restroom in time. I’m sure the Keen sisters have no idea how humiliating it is to have an experience like that in front of others, but our guest was mortified. 90% of RVs have bathrooms inside of them these days, so they really don’t need sites right next to a bathroom. Instead of moving guests to incompatible sites so they can cram more RVs into their sad excuse for a campground, they should work on fixing the “terrain issues” so people with special needs can be accommodated, especially when they pay the extra lock-in fee. The ONLY good thing about Keen Lake is clean bathrooms. My family has been coming here for the past few years and I’ve recommended Keen Lake to quite a few friends who are avid campers, but I can assure the Keen sisters that they’ll be losing out on far more than the cost of our stay when I steer them away in the years to come. The Keen sisters’ greed has become so transparent it’s both sad and...
Read moreWe just got back from a week at Keen Lake Resorts, this was our first time here and was selected by family members as the destination of our annual Family camping trip for 2 main reasons. The first being location, it fell approximately halfway between us and our extended family we were meeting for the week, and secondly there were several rental options to choose from. My MIL rented one of the campers and my SIL rented one right next to them, the Terrace RV and the Lakeview RV. Originally, we found a spot on the water down by the highway that would fit our 30ft travel trailer and figured we were close enough to make the trek over to hang with them at their sites.
Two days prior to our arrival date I get a call from Keen Lake, and I have to be honest my stomach dropped expecting the worst. When I answered I was pleasantly surprised by a staff member letting me know they had some full hook up sites in a quiet part of the campground open up and they would like to offer the upgrade free of charge. I explained it would depend on where it was as we were meeting family there and proceeded to explain where they were staying. Working with the staff member she was not only able to still upgrade me, but she found me one even closer than the original upgrade she had called to offer. Talk about AMAZING customer service!!
Upon arrival there was not much space for trailer parking during the check in process but the check in staff was super friendly and helpful and the process was quick and smooth. They even provided the best angle for us to use to access the site and get the camper into the tight spots.
As with most private parks the sites are smaller and very close together, but our site (S5) was beautiful and worked well for what we needed. The only true con I found was the fire pit was very small which makes Dutch oven cooking very difficult, and the seasonal campers who were present in our area were less than friendly. They very much put off the vibe we were unwelcome guests in “their area”. Unfortunately for them we made ourselves at home and enjoyed every minute of our week!
The store was super cute and clean, and the ice cream flavors were AMAZING!! We will certainly return again if it fits into our schedule!
Travel tip: stay on main roads (Route6) coming in, we followed the google directions and it took us on some pretty crazy mountain crossroads that are not...
