We were in a pull-through campsite (26) at Hackberry campground for 3 nights in early March. The campground was at the bottom of Palo Duro Canyon which is very different than the Grand Canyon in Arizona. We enjoyed a beautiful drive down into the canyon to get to Hackberry campground. The campground was extra clean. We noted our camp hosts cleaning a campsite - they were so caring & wanting everything to be spotless. Our entertainment was 2 cute roadrunners. Our host said they'd named one Rascal & that I could name the other one!! How special!! Our host also offered to take our photo next to our rig at the campsite. They went above & beyond & seemed to enjoy the job of hosts!!❤️ We highly recommend Hackberry campground. The full hookups were fantastic in early March.

Campground and bathroom built by CCC over 90 years ago. Showing its age. Recently flooded and not cleaned. Rained one day and turned place into a mud puddle. One entrance isn't marked. There are unmarked trails behind campground. Deer and turkeys wander around. Animals dig trash out of dumpsters and no one cleans it up. Expensive place, they charge day use fee on top of camping fee. No camp host, no one checks anything. Sites have electric and water. Day use hikers park in campground and park police do nothing.

We were in space 9, late June. Due to poor drainage we had a mud puddle throughout our stay, also no cover for our picnic table. Other sites had less mud, nice covers. There are 2 entrances, if you book an exterior site use the second entrance. Bathrooms and shower were clean. Palo Duro is 5 star, Hackberry probably deserves more stars but walking in around in mud the two days we were here….

Overall very impressed with this campground. Park hosts were so helpful. We had car trouble during our stay and with no cell service for anyone except at&t subscribers we could have been in a great deal of trouble. The hosts had cell service and offered to give us a ride to town. We tent camped with 4 dogs at site 27. Site 27 is very deceiving in the site pictures. I would not recommend any of the middle sites, best site seems to be 30 with a high amount of privacy and a shade cover. If camping with dogs or in a tent you will definitely want a cover. Site 27 does have a cover and that is its best feature. Remember to bring sunscreen and lip protection as the temperatures and conditions can be harsh. It is warmer in the canyon and wind can be an issue also. We stayed for 5 nights and had temperatures ranging from the 90's all the way down to 28 degrees on our last night. Bathrooms are very clean however they only contain 2 showers and this is a very busy Park, so I had to wait most evenings for a hot shower. Trails leave directly from the camp area and it is a...
