Our overall stay at the Residence Inn Fort Myers/Sanibel was not the greatest. The best thing that happened was that they upgraded our room (no extra charge) to a two bedroom suite instead of a one bedroom. That was amazing. We used the kitchenette often and love the convenience of having two beds and two bathroom as well as a living room area.
However, we had a couple of instances that occurred during the rest of our duration. The BIGGEST issue was that our room wasn’t cleaned ONCE by housekeeping during our 5 day stay. We arrived on Tuesday night and left Sunday morning and it wasn’t touched at all by housekeeping. On Saturday the 23rd, we left the hotel at 7:45am to go to the beach. We can back around 4:00pm to find our room NOT cleaned again. A room with a kitchen should be cleaned as often as possible. I went down to the front desk and spoke to Caroline. She was like extremely rude and inconsiderate to my needs as a guest and reinsured me that housekeeping would still clean out room. However, after spending the whole day at the beach and it being close to dinner time, we found that at that time (3:30pm-4:00pm) was inappropriate. I never heard of a hotel having housekeeping clean rooms into the evening. Caroline, made sure to tell me that the housekeeping schedule was every other day and didn’t give a reason as of why they didn’t clean in the days previous. So I took it upon myself to clean our room: swapped linens, towels, garbage, etc. I even spend $45 on cleaning supplies to clean our room. To boot, that day was my birthday. Being a manager in the hospitality business myself, Caroline did an absolute horrific job at correcting this issue. It’s because of her and the outlandish schedule this hotel has, we will never return there. I will happily spend extra money to stay at a hotel that provides services that meet with their guests wants and needs.
In addition, there was construction in the front the entire time we were there. Breakfast was a great amenity for my family and the F&B staff were amazing and made our mornings pleasurable.
Please conduct an evaluation on the desk clerk, Caroline. She has no business working in that Industry and shouldn’t have the opportunity to do so. Also, the entire interaction I had with here, she had a ear phone in her ear! I hope Marriott doesn’t condone this behavior and...
Read moreOverall, it was a nice stay and I would stay at this hotel location again. The hotel is clean and well-maintained (not shabby) and the staff are friendly. Breakfast area was clean and food choices were consistent and varied. There were a few negatives however: First, the pool area is lovely but is not well-maintained. There were dozens of bees in the pool each day when we used it each day and there was crud floating on the bottom. My child is afraid of bees and I spent 20+ minutes flicking the bees out of the pool onto the deck each day (where they remained for the entire stay). There is no net available so that guests can clear the bees and at no point during the entire week did I see anyone clean the pool or the deck. A staff member told me at one point "the pool guy is coming today and he will clean it" but the pool guy (which I saw twice during the stay) did absolutely nothing to clean the pool directly - he was working in the equipment area the entire time. We also rescued a living frog, a dead frog, and a living crab from the pool over the course of our week long stay (thank goodness we had that tennis racket). Second, the can opener in our room did not work; I called down to the front desk one evening to ask for a functional one. I was told at that time that they had a number of requests to work on and it would be about 30 minutes wait - NO ONE EVER CAME. This impacted our dinner. We did get a can opener from the front desk, in person, the next morning. Third, our room did not have a frying pan when we checked in. This was quickly resolved by staff. The frying pan acquired was very warped and cooked very unevenly (bacon burned inedible in the middle and uncooked on the ends). I realize this might seem minor - but part of the benefit of staying at a Residence Inn is having the kitchen stocked so that one can cook rather than eat out. So having sub-par kitchen tools is a real bummer. Fourth, there were some maintenance issues - the men's restroom by the pool was locked for our entire stay and the men's lobby restroom was out of order for most of the week. My husband had to go to our room to use the restroom when at the pool. The door to the laundry area seemed to need attention - sometimes it worked fine and sometimes it wouldn't open. The tub drain in our room did not...
Read moreWe needed a place to stay before heading to Sanibel for a few days. This place was perfect for us. (mother /daughter trip)
We booked a 2 room suite with two queen beds. There were ample outlets next to the beds. (Both regular outlets and USB.)
The bathroom had a tub/shower and toilet separated from the sink area by a door.(where there was a full sized hair dryer) Across from the sink was a closet with a small safe. In the other room there was plenty of seating including a table and 4 chairs. A sofa, a padded arm chair and a desk with desk chair. A full size fridge with an excellent freezer. A sink, dishwasher, stove top and even a garbage disposal. (dish soap, paper towels, hot pads, dishes /silverware etc were in our room also)
There was also a balcony with chairs. From our balcony we were able to see the Sanibel Lighthouse. (room 622)
Each morning we were able to partake of breakfast which had scrambled eggs plus one other hot item which varied from day to day. Also included were make-your-own waffles. Oatmeal. Cereal. Muffins and bagels (next to toaster) milk, yogurt, orange juice, apple juice, and coffee /hot water.
Coffee was also available, nearly all the time, in the lobby. Often, there were fresh cookies in the lobby too.
All of these things added up to a pleasant stay but what really elevated the quality of our stay was the employees.
Our first interaction was with Dasia, at the front desk. She was welcoming and informative. We were thankful for the information she gave us voluntarily. She made us feel appreciated as guests. As I waited, for a tardy food delivery (from an outside location), in the lobby, I had an opportunity to witness her at work with other guests too and she was just as welcoming and helpful with each person who came through the doors. A very valuable employee for Marriott.
Throughout our stay it became evident that management here does a great job of training their employees because each person we met, from the dining room attendants to the maintenance people to maids and desk personnel, treated us with courtesy.
On top of all this. A Publix grocery store is very nearly in the same parking lot. Across the street is an outlet mall and right near the hotel is a gas station.
A very convenient location with...
