Royal Rest Motel — Hotel in Chariton

This motel has a little problem with the entrance to the property because there is no concrete there, just a dirt road where you need to enter the property. There is also a big section of dirt/mud in the center of a large u-shaped footprint of the motel with the rooms along the edges of the square unpaved space. But in front of each room there is a paved place to park, so your car is not sitting on dirt, but it drives through dirt to get to the room. It is quite strange. Inside, however, is delightful. It is an old fashioned place with wood paneling on the walls just like in the sixties. It was a little bit nostalgic for me in that respect. The rest of the room is updated and very, clean. I was very comfortable in this room. It was quiet, had a large flat screen t.v. with lots of channels, and a spotless bathroom. The bed was comfortable, even though it took almost all the space of the room. It was a reasonable price, and I am satisfied with this room. I think it would cost a lot to pave the whole space that is dirt now, and so these owners are probably in a tough spot because of the cost...

Our original reservation next door was cancelled, and we had to stay here as a last minute option seeing as it was so late when we got in. They charged us 250$ for one night, when online all their rooms are 50-60$. But it gets better. Out of the two beds, one was infested with bed bugs. I laid down and was almost immediately being bitten. My mom and I shared the other one which seemed to be fine, though the mattress was very uncomfortable. Woke up this morning and had to kill two spiders in the bathroom before I got in the shower. The liner in the shower was either bad or there was a leak under the tub, because when I got out the whole bathroom was full of water. Had to use three previously stained towels to mop up the floor. Overall, terrible experience. Glad I don't have to come back...

I'm a bit surprised by the less-than-stellar reviews. I'm not sure what they are supposed to do that they did not do for us.||The room was spotless and seemed new. The beds were comfortable, all fixtures worked, and the heat/AC unit had a "continuous fan" setting so it didn't wake us up each time it kicked on. The staff was courteous, for reservations, check-in, and during the stay.||The breakfast was minimal but that's not why we stay at a motel while vacationing. We want a good night's sleep in a clean, quiet room, at a reasonable price. And this, the Royal Rest Motel provided...
