Birdwood Golf Course — Hotel in Charlottesville

This is a very beautiful Golf Course with great scenery and beautiful rolling Fairways and Greens. I would love to play this Course AGAIN AND AGAIN, but at THE PRICE of $165 for 18 holes and a Cart............NO WAY! I'm from out of town and I showed up at this Course to get a round in without CHECKING, OR ASKING THE PRICE and got shocked when I was told what it was. 1st there were no Beverage Carts, so make sure you take food and drinks with you before you Tee off the 1st Tee. 2nd....trying to figure out where the next Tee Box is was a bit challenging. 3rd......I was told that I couldn't Tee off until 1:54pm and I showed up at 12:30pm and there were NO GOLFERS on the Tee Box or within 4 holes, but I did show up as a Single with a 1:54pm Tee Time. So I went to the first Tee and was waved at to go ahead and TEE OFF. Why didn't you just do THAT IN THE FIRST PLACE???? As I said before I would love to play this Course again but...

First off, fantastic course. Greens are smooth and almost impossible to hold if you're above the hole, so steer towards being short than long (hit some shots on the chipping green and you'll see what I mean). Course itself has a wonderful layout and seemed pretty walkable. Hilly but walkable. Good collection of holes but some weaker par 3s, but that's forgivable because the 4s and 5s are fantastic.

Lost of little areas to practice: two putting greens, a chipping green, and a good sized driving range where you can hit off grass. The UVA golfers also seem to have a 100 yards and in practice green hidden away. There is a new practice center coming in the Fall of 2018. Looks like it's going to be awesome. Clubhouse is small but the service is good. New grill but I didn't have time to try it.

Choose your tees from 3800 to 7100 yards on six tee boxes and find golf at every level. Some holes trick the eye but all are fair and make for a fun round. UVA plays this course so you can test your mettle as a collegiate player. The friendly staff will make you feel at home as you enjoy a challenging round on a well maintained course. 8/20/25.
