I enjoyed the big room with a huge glass panel giving unparalleled mountain views (you have to be third floor and up for these views) and plenty of natural light. The staff were exceptionally polite, helpful, knowledgeable and efficient. The bathroom was big with good quality taps and good water pressure in the big shower, that was feeling no slippery and safe. The carpet looked clean and (I have never said that before) safe to step on it barefoot. The big, effective and nearly noiseless a/c unit is one more plus. There are shuttles to take you from the main parking to the lobby entrance (about three floors up), but at peak time you will not find one easily. There was plenty of outlets and USB ports in the room. Cleanliness of the whole property was very good, especially when considering the amount of traffic they carry. On the minus side, there is a large number of small omissions and inconveniences, designed to drug you to the overpriced food court and the casino. The rooms are not having windows, they are only having glass panels instead. Parking is insufficient and complicated. It is minimal at the hotel lobby level, insufficient in the "middle" level (19 steps up to lobby level) and ample at bottom (casino) level 46 steps below lobby level. We did not know how to handle it, so check in took us 40 minutes: 5 minutes at the front desk, and the rest trying to find a place to park and take our luggage up to the room walking through the parking lot and the steps. The best way to do it, is check in at the front desk and then drive back to the bottom (casino and food court) level and use the elevator from there. We didn't know, so we carried our luggage 46 steps up and about a quarter mile to the back entrance of lobby level. The big room is designed to drug you to the food court and casino, where everything is black and lit in a way that is designed to make you lose sense of time and stay there eating and gambling for ever. Room omissions include no microwave, no freezer in the very basic fridge, shallow and rather uncomfortable chairs even though the room is enough for comfortable compact armchairs and a breakfast table. The king size mattress was very soft and unsupportive (the usual "hotel" quality) with four harsh small pillows. If you want to read a paper, lighting may prove to be insufficient. There is a daily $8.60 surcharge for the use of power including coffee maker, TV etc. I tried to connect to the Internet through the hotel, a screen warning me of a $8.55 per day Internet surcharge popped up. I did it through my phone instead, a much safer way to do it anyhow. There is no bathtub, but a very good size shower with no grab bars and black (mold?) spots...
Read moreWe are both senior citizens who aren't very familiar with kiosks. Upon arrival, we had to register at kiosk to get our room keys or wait in line of around 40 guests to get our keys. We prefer face to face contact but can't stand in line for an hour waiting for it. It has been a long time since I have been to a casino. It has changed vastly and I was not happy with the change. I have played in casinos in Reno, Tahoe, Vegas, Wildhorse in Oregon and Foxwoods in Connecticut. My favorite was blackjack. I have never played blackjack where the odds...at least in my opinion...swayed so far towards the house. Your slots were so tight...in the 2 days we were there, we didn't see anyone win anything. Back to the hotel room where we ended up spending a lot of our time. I recently spent less money at a vrbo condo at pigeon forge which was beautiful and included a full kitchen and pool. The television for the kids had Hulu, you tube, Netflix, and premium channels along with I didn't even count how many regular channels. We were stuck with less than 50 regular channels and on demand which you wanted more than a theater would charge to watch. We wanted to use your outdoor pool and found that was closed...seasonal closure in the middle of August. It was 90 degrees outside. I didn't want to use an indoor pool when the weather outside was so nice. I have been to motels in Reno and Tahoe in September where the pools are open. As far as dining goes, again the kiosk experience at the food court. Every Harrahs I have ever been to in my lifetime has had a nice reasonably priced buffet to accommodate their customers. You have a food court with airport priced food or restaurants that aren't open till later in the day. I believe you do have one café that is open for breakfast but after paying $40 for 2 hamburgers, fries and 2 drinks at your food court, I did not want to see what you charged at your restaurant. Also, there is noone around to assist in the use of the kiosks so when my hamburger order was not quite what I wanted and I expressed it to the server, she was not wanting to refund the error or fix it. I had to accept what was ordered. There is one positive note to our stay at Harrahs Cherokee. We were refunded our 2 days for early check...
Read moreWe asked upon reserving for a quiet rm that would not require much walking as husband has trouble w/this. We arrived, in checking in I was asked again - same request was made. I noticed the clerk (Peierre -??) kind of sneered. I didn't connect this with the next 10 min. **Note of Importance - CONSTRUCTION ALL AROUND ON PROPERTY - I missed this info on line when reserving. Anyway, ol' girl put us in a room that was quite a walk - and ON THE SIDE OF THE CONTSTRUCTION!! In a room that had MOLD lining the shower walls - Ol' girl tried to tell me it was grout. (Their grout is white, the mold is black). She must deal with people that actually believe her excuses for being irresponsible. NO APOLOGY, NO REFUND...Oh, and we ordered a burger - MED. WELL - from the restaurant - got to the room it was MED. RARE/RARE - mushy - threw it out. (and the server forgot the drink - the order was a burger and a drink... !). Oh, Yes - no room service btw. You can't take your own bags to your own room, or use a bellman's cart without a Bellman herding you in and out, separating from you and 'getting lost' w/our luggage for a good 10 minutes or more... - Really? What is that all about? Pierre (or ?, as I am not sure of her name) needs to re-assess her 'passion' for working with the public. What she did was just down right dirty - and we were celebrating my husband's birthday - 81! Her excuse is that it was the type of room that we booked. Well, Pierre - you work in this hotel - supposedly as a manager (whut?!!). It is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to educate your guests. If she had mentioned an option such as the two queens, this type or that type room - we would have thankfully taken her up on this. Being as there are not enough of the close by Handicap parking, my husband did way too much walking and Pierre couldn't have given a .... This place is not a nice place - lots of playing, lots of lights, and horrible guest service. This place is one that really owes us an apology and a refund for food and for the room. We live near the Bristol Harrahs - sure hope it is better than Murphy - but we won't waste our money on finding out. Don't want to get ripped off again. I have worked in the Service Industry for over 27 yrs - I know good from "OMG, are you...
