Utter nightmare and extremely unsafe!
In short: Booked a room through Airbnb nearly a month in advance. Unable to check in the first night due to unresponsive host. Host later insulted me. Room occupied the second night. Host READ my message on the Airbnb app but did not reply or answer calls. Had to find a hotel last minute.
In detail: I was unable to check in the first day (-5pm) bc I had no code. The host, John did not answer phone calls (voicemail full) or reply to messages for 30 min- and then the code he sent didn’t work. I messaged/ called again. After an hour, I had to leave for work without checking in (and had to get ready there).
I had to lug my bags up and down 3 floors (no elevator). It is supposed to be a non-smoking room but there was a heavy smell of marijuana in the hall.
After I arrived at work, he messaged that the code was reset. I mentioned the marijuana smell and I asked if the code will still work in the morning. He replied: “I’ve got hundreds of units I’m not messaging all day with a male Karen” and did not answer my question.
At 2am, John sent me a new code and a different room number.
This building is an old dorm. Prior to booking, the host had assured me that although the rooms have a Jack-and-Jill bathroom between them, the other room is not rented and will not be occupied.
When I arrived after work (at 7:30am, ready to take a shower) and opened the bathroom door I found myself staring at ANOTHER PERSON! Someone was staying on the other side and using the bathroom! Also, the room assigned to me was unclean. There were dirty socks in the top dresser drawer and dried up leaves in another. I left before checking the bed.
The host READ MY MESSAGE on the AirBnb app about the room being occupied but to this day he has NEVER RESPONDED.
I tried both codes on the previously assigned room before leaving just in case but that didn’t work.
I had to call around for a hotel room last-minute and the closest one with a room available that morning was 25 min away.
I contacted AirBnb customer service and they were unable to reach John either. They refunded me what I paid, plus $25 for the inconvenience. They assured me that this is not the experience they want for their customers and that they will be “taking action”with this host.
I had booked a total of 10 nights across three weeks for work (and would have booked more if it hadn’t been such a disaster). Airbnb canceled and refunded those reservations also.
Imagine being the other guest! * What if it had been a small or elderly woman and a violent felon or rapist walked in while she was sleeping or using the...
Read moreThe rooms aren't tiny and provide a hardwired connection for people who need to work while on vacation or traveling for business. They provide towels and shampoo but there's not much in the way of service besides that. It's not that type of place. They do have a kitchen that's shared with access to plates and cooking utensils which is convenient. There is to be a lounge open on each floor that was roomy and could be used to get out of your room for a little while if needed in case you have no plans for the day but hey have been locked and given the reasoning of a few bad apples taking things from these areas. The host, John, seems to be very nice and replies to your inquiries upon a reasonable amount of time. The doors each have a electronic Smart Lock that requires a code which is given to you...
