My granddaughter and I along with my sister and her husband stayed at the Clear Lake hotel from June 4th to June 9th. We have stayed at this hotel for many years and have always had good experiences until now. When my sister and I checked in we found that our rooms were not by each other like we had asked upon doing our reservations or even close so we asked if they could give us rooms by each other (I was given a room on the main floor and she was on the second floor). With out much effort on their part we were told "no, sorry nothing was available" because they were full and would not switch our rooms with anyone not checked in yet. When I entered my room the toilet in the bathroom was backed up and full of feces which made the room smell horrible. I let the front desk know and they came and fixed the problem but the smell lingered for quite a while. You could also tell that no one had been in the room to check the cleanliness for some time as my TV, dressers, microwave and counters were dusty. The trash containers in the room were only emptied once the 5 days we were there and the beds and fresh towels were only changed on request. The continental breakfast was a joke! No coffee was available in the morning until almost 8:00 (or whenever they got to it) and the breakfast options were cold cereal, hard boiled eggs and toast. You could never depend on when the coffee was going to even be there in the morning. A few customers along with us were in the lobby waiting for our coffee more than once with no one to be found. I had a non-smoking room but you couldn't get to it with out walking down a smoked filled hallway because of the manager smoking in her apartment and leaving the door open...it smelled awful! Also the main entrance is the only place designated to smoke cigarettes and it stunk just going into the building. Quite a change from my last stay in January and February of this year! Julie the old manager was so helpful and friendly and would do her best to accommodate us if she could. The rooms were always clean and fresh and breakfast was always set out on time! This new manager could have cared less about the customer and was very unfriendly. The staff was kind but I think more training on hotel customer service and etiquette is in order. I don't believe I will be staying at this hotel again as long as this new manager is there which is sad as we have a lot of elderly family in town that we visit often. I would rather pay the extra and stay in Watertown until the hotel improves its customer service. You do not get what you...
Read moreChose this hotel as it was close to a funeral that I needed to attend. Other family was staying here so I wanted to be convenient to be able to spend time with them. I knew this was a lower end chain so didn't go in with unrealistic expectations, but quickly was disappointed. Upon arrival there was a sign at the desk with a phone number to call if no one was available, which there wasn't. Ok small town and probobly short staffed, so I can understand. No biggie. After checking in I am handed a key ring. Really, there are still hotels out there with old fashioned real keys? So after walking up the stairs to my room (no elevator), I spend about 2 minutes getting the key to fit just right into the door before it will open. About now I'm reminding myself this is a low budget hotel and not to be so critical. Now I enter the room and can't wait to open the window as it is really stale smelling in here. Ok, now I really need to use the bathroom after that bulky check in process. Ewe, well the seat is at least clean but the toilet bowl has some serious stains and as I'm sitting there I also see the same holds true for the tub. No luggage holder in room so now I slide stuff over on dresser so I can set my suitcase down (I don't know if I trust setting it on the floor at this point). Ok now to open that window, but wait there are holes in the screen and the window casing is filthy. Next it's off to check in with my family in the next room. I mention a few of the inconveniences and disappointments and find out that the moved to 3 rooms after check in before they got one they felt they...
