I want to give a lower rating, but four stars is fair for how most people will perceive this hotel. The thing that annoys me is the religious note that was in the room (and presumably in all rooms). While it was seemingly pretty well-intentioned, Christianity has become representative of hate toward a lot of people, and it makes me uncomfortable now because it is very unwelcoming to me. Again, not their intent, I realize. I put this in the survey response, though, and received this response: "We recognize not everyone has the same beliefs or world view. The owner of our property simply wants to convey a sincere blessing upon all who stay with us. Each guest is welcome to take it or leave it. He would strongly disagree with your sentiment that the Gospel message is one of hate, but that is your prerogative to hold that belief. He just believes in sharing the love of Christ to all, as it is written, [1Co 9:23 ESV] 23 'I do it all for the sake of the gospel, that I may share with them in its blessings.'" Clearly, they missed the point. I was not saying it is a message of hate, I was saying it has become a message of hate due to how people use it now. Just not very welcoming to me, is all.
All that said, it was a decent stay, and the staff was friendly. The only other negative was a strong smell that made me a bit sick in the room when I got there. The room was clean, though, the internet was decent, and if you're wanting to stay in Colfax, this is a good location.
Here are my usual specific details: Comparison to others in chain: Better Internet: Decent Breakfast: Tried to find something, didn’t. Slightly worse options than normal. Read moreBest Western was basically the only hotel in Colfax (or even Palouse area), especially closer to stay and prepare for photo tours at Steptoe Butte and Kamiak Butte (as well as all scenic road trip along WA-195, WA-26/272). It had been kind of a photographer's inn, with famous photo/art frames in hallway. And it provided relatively rich selection of breakfast -- nothing unique but general decent American style sausage, bacon, potato, eggs, and etc.
Other than above, the hotel itself was a plain 2-floor building (with NO elevator/lift). Enough parking but no spot covered by trees. Room in normal condition. And it was expensive, typically at hot seasons (generally around July 4 as we were told) -- better to book in advance or it would be more difficult to find any B'n'B than sleeping in the car. There was a supermarket across street, closing quite early at 5 PM (some days) although google maps said 10 PM.
2021.09.02. Thanks to owner's reply on more detailed info. Bump the rating to 4-star due to its great service level. I'd recommend the hotel could provide some updated weather statistics, either weekly forecast, or better with full-year trend (even a rough description), so that tourists might be prepared. Personally came to Colfax a few times but it was hard to see a clear sky every time, some due to wild fire, some due to the rain. Knowing it could be cool to stay on a raining day. But good weather would be fortune to...
Read moreWe stayed here for a photography conference that was based out of this facility. From my first contact making my reservation, I found the staff to be friendly, welcoming, and helpful.
Upon arriving we were greeted and offered hot beverages and cookies. Our room was spacious, clean, and very functional for the work I needed to do (desk, lighting, adequate electrical outlets, fast internet). Vending machines were available for snacks, there was a clean and spacious fitness room and a clean indoor pool that could be observed from outside of the pool area. It was very popular with families.
The beds were at the most comfortable commercial beds I have ever slept in. That's a big deal for me! Especially over five days of limited hours of sleep.
The provision of a full breakfast in a town with few options is a real plus. The hours of breakfast were generous and convenient. The quality of food was excellent, appropriately heated and not dried out. The varied menu each day was nice since we were there over five days. The choices availble accommodated children as well as adults, diabetics, and persons with restricted diets.
All in all, I would recommend this Inn to anyone traveling to this area. It is a goodvalue for the dollar and will appeal to business persons, families, and people just traveling through. This is a 10 out of 10 ...
