My boyfriend and I booked a stay to visit some friends in columbus and celebrate his April 1st birthday. We chose The Timbrook Guesthouse because it seemed to match our style the most based on online photos and we loved that there was a greenhouse, pool & hot tub on site as well as a park across the street. We forgot our swimsuits, so we didn't get to use the hot tub, but we didn't have much time to spend hanging around the house anyway. We did enjoy checking out their impressive garden and chickens, though! Spring is a beautiful time to visit!
Jill & Peter were a pleasure to have as hosts and the breakfasts were wonderful. We are healthy eaters and had never been to a bed and breakfast before, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. I enjoy cooking and experimenting with new recipes and was pleased to discover that Jill enjoys the same! We had something different both days and were very pleased with the quality, taste and thoughtfulness that went into each breakfast! Jill also graciously accommodates vegan eaters and other special diets.
Attention to detail was very apparent throughout the home. The rooms and bathrooms were impeccably clean which is always wonderful. We ended up booking a different room for each night due to availability, but were happy to be able to experience two rooms. We tried the West Wing Suite and then the Bluebird Suite. Both rooms were great, but the Bluebird suite was our favorite. It felt like we were floating in a cloud! Beautiful lighting and decor and soft, cozy carpet! We are also somewhat sensitive to perfumes as we use only my own handmade and natural personal care and household products, so I was pleased at how fresh the rooms/house smelled without being clouded up with toxic air fresheners.
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend it. If we travel to Columbus again this is where...
Read moreI would say that "romantic" is a bit misleading. I booked a night here to celebrate our anniversary with my wife. We were honestly a bit creeped out by the place. It has the vibes of an old haunted manor, not an intimate romantic getaway. The walls are paper thin, and we could hear the other guests all around us. We felt the need to whisper the whole time we were there. I would warn any younger couples out there against staying here if you're after a truly intimate, romantic experience. This place is more like visiting your quirky grandmother's house.
When we were leaving, I was approached at the door and asked to pay right then and there with a debit reader, which had one of those screens that prompts you to leave gratuity at different percentages. In my hurry to get heading back home, I accidentally selected the 20% option, which added a $96.00 tip to an over $600.00 bill. There was no option on the following screen to go back, and I wasn't about to say out loud in front of my wife and other guests, "oh, I don't want to tip you, can you please show me how to undo that?" Lol. 100% my own fault. But, for future reference, it would be nice if guests could simply be charged with the card info they upload to the site in advance. This is what I was hoping for and it's more discrete. I felt ever so slightly cheated by the exchange, but again, I recognize that it's my own fault.
In all fairness, there's really nothing wrong with this place. Obviously a lot of people have stayed here and enjoyed it. The majority of reviews here are positive. It's an interesting property that a lot of people will find unique and memorable. I'm just putting this out there so that others can learn from my mistakes. Do your research thoroughly, and don't book...
Read moreI made a last-minute trip to Columbus for business, and I was lucky enough to be booked in the Timbrook for an extended stay. When I heard that the local hotels were full, and I would be staying outside of the city in a B&B, my anxiety was on code red. Don't get me wrong, I love a great B&B while on vacation, but I never imagined it would be convenient for an extended business stay ... I was proved wrong almost immediately, as I was greeted at the front door by Jill, and was shown my loft-like suite on the top floor. The 1870 farmhouse is decorated with impeccable thought and taste, and the upkeep of the home and grounds is clearly a high priority for the hosts. I was able to unwind each evening in my spacious suite, with all the accommodations of home. My hosts, Peter and Jill, were simply wonderful (my wife was worried about anyone being able to put up with me for a week). The meals were delicious, and Jill was sure to ask if I had any dietary restrictions or specific requests. The grounds are gorgeous, and the home is absolutely flawless.
I'm planning for many extended stays in Columbus this year, and I'm certainly planning to skip the boring hotels, and stay in the classy comfort of the Timbrook Guesthouse. If you're in Columbus for a short or extended stay, be sure to do yourself the favor of making this place your home...
