When I book a 2-star property I am not expecting to be wowed by the accommodations, but I do expect them to be clean and in good working order. This cabin, located directly behind the motel with it's own entrance and small porch, needs some maintenance.||||First off, parking was difficult as the snow was not adequately removed like it was in the lower lot. After returning to our cabin in the afternoon we noticed an inch of water on the floor of the kitchen eating area and water dripping from the ceiling. The front desk gentleman came up with some ice buckets and towels and said there wasn't anything he could really do about it. (The snow was melting on the roof and dripping down through the shingles.) I also asked him for some ant traps because there were ants crawling on the walls in the kitchen and in the sink. He looked at them and said, "Yes, those are carpenter ants. Don't leave any food out. If they get in your trash we will deal with them." He then left without killing any of the ants he had just seen in the sink. ||||When I went in to use the shower I was grossed out by the brown liquid stains in the tub. (see photo) I'm not sure how housekeeping staff could find that an acceptable way to leave a room for an incoming guest. ||||Other areas that needed attention I could overlook considering the reasonable price: broken light switch, peeling and scratched off wallpaper, stained carpet, chipping paint on moulding, bent up mini-blinds, etc. ||||This cabin does have an inherent charm that comes from it's log walls and offers plenty of space, kitchen facilities, and a separate bedroom. If the owners invested just slightly more time in maintaining the property it could be real gem. Sadly, this doesn't seem to...

We took a ski trip to Mammoth for a week between Christmas and New Year's, most of the nearby hotels were booked in early November. June Lake is fairly close, with the benefit of being less crowded.

I wanted a hotel with a functional hot tub or jacuzzi and the Whispering Pines motel clearly advertised an indoor hot tub and spa. Scoured their website to be sure, because some hotels mentioned a hot tub but elsewhere stated "out of order". Everything looked okay, as otherwise all we needed was a small kitchen and enough room for 4 people to crash.

Arrived at around 4 pm; our key was in an envelope taped to the office window. No one was in the office. The room was spacious but had areas of major disrepair.

First morning, the coffee maker wasn't working. Went down to the office at 10 am but no one was there and it was locked so I called the hotel number, spoke with someone off-site who arrived in 30 minutes with a new coffee maker. I also asked about the hot tub and was told that it was "out of order".

This was more than annoying, as there were several other hotels (in much better condition) that I could've booked for the same price if I'd known. I also showed him the kitchen flooring that was loose and sliding around - he just shrugged his shoulders, apparently not his job.

He was pleasant enough, but the manager/owner is downright hostile, is never on-site and apparently won't hire anyone for hotel office/front desk. The rooms have tiny hot water heaters that allow a 3 minute shower before going cold. Would not recommend this place and we'll be staying elsewhere next time we...

Here is the straight forward honest review of this place, of which I have stayed on two seperate occaisions. The first day was a good stay with me and my wife being there for a couple of nights no problems everything good. The second and most recent stay just a week ago was different, first of all the unit we stayed in was directly above the office and it was a large unit with a beautiful view, The kitchen and bathroom were clean and the kitchen had a Keurig coffee maker, I did notice however that the place was a little rundown but that’s OK, we had a good stay with great snowboarding at June mountain, however on Saturday sometime while we were snowboarding someone from the hotel came and replenish the coffee pods, but they didn’t bother to check the single most important item in any hotel or motel the toilet paper. Sunday morning I called the office and very politely asked if we could get some toilet paper, The man who answered who I assume must’ve been the owner manager Jeff paused for quite some time then made a loud exhale and the tone of his voice sounded agitated and annoyed and said OK I’ll bring you some toilet paper… but he never did bring that toilet paper in fact I’m still waiting for it. What kind of a person would ruin somebody’s day over something as simple as toilet paper? I can only imagine that he may have some other problems he’s dealing with or he’s just sick of being a motel manager owner. So in conclusion the place is in a good location the rooms are decent the only problem is the attitude of the...

This is honestly one of the worst places I have ever had the chance of staying at. To start with there is no onsite staff. Our key was taped to the door with my name clearly in bold letters. Anyone could have taken our information and/or used the space before we got there. This starts the privacy concerns. The “cabin” that we rented had a dingy foul smell. The ceiling tiles were riddled with water stains from an obvious faulty roof. There was carpet that was possibly 30+ years old with rips and stains. Other flooring was cracked and/or peeling. When we first ran the water it was brown sludge. The bathroom sink backed up. When a hotel uses the standard shower curtains they are supposed to remove and wash them between guests. The one in our place was covered with mildew and an awful stained yellow color. Towels that were provided had holes, rips and were frayed on the edges. We had a great view of a trailer full of mattresses out of one of our windows. Is this an indication of a bug problem? We rented the place in the summer, the temps were soaring and there is no air conditioning. They did provide 2 fans, but not enough for all the rooms. The mini blinds were the old metal type, all bent and provided a lack of privacy. Shall we talk about the scorpion that we had to deal with? I would honestly rate in the negative if I could.

I do not know how people could rate this hotel with four or more stars and three stars is even a stretch. I wonder what kind of motels they are staying in. The place is in need of major maintenance, as witnessed by the tile missing in our shower, the mold around the base of the shower, the door trim that is desperate need of painting because it is so dirty, furniture that is from the 60's, popcorn ceilings that looked massively water stained, windows that are dirty to the point that they filter the sunlight and an aroma when you first walk in that is not very pleasant. Not to mention that there is no A/C and the front desk is not manned. There was a white phone at the front desk and you had to dial zero to get help. The person who helped us was very friendly; however, his attire was very unkempt. I stayed here because it was one of the few places in June Lake that had two queen beds, I have never stayed in June Lake, the price was cheaper than the other places around and the reviews were not that bad. Next time I will stay in Mammoth Lakes, because the prices are better and so are most of the hotels.
