I've been vacillating on how to review to Bay Point, and our stay there. It's for sure not a five star stay. Not for the price, and not for what they offer even if you're staying in a cabin.
The [Drift] cabin is certainly nice, but it's one of their more expensive options. For the premium you get a bigger kitchen area and larger cabin in general. Each cabin has its own patio and fireplace, but I can see the patio area being less inviting as you're so close to other cabins. Thankfully when we went it wasn't busy and we had the area to ourselves.
The bed is comfortable enough; the mattress is on the firmer side. But the layout of the bedroom leaves a lot to be desired. In an obvious attempt to keep up with trends, there are no doors, but instead they using the sliding barn doors. One closet door acts as the "door" to the bedroom. So to get into the closet you need to slide the door closed and then climb over the bed and essentially stand inside the closet. It's super awkward and I was not a fan. They should move the bed up against the wall so you can actually walk to the closet. Also, use real doors. The barn door is basically a privacy screen and blocks no noise coming from the rest of the cabin. Same goes for the bathroom, which also utilizes a barn door and not a real door. I hope you're close to whoever else you're staying with.
The kitchen in the Drift cabin is sufficient enough. You're not going to be cooking a big meal from scratch, but there's more than enough [room] there to warm up or make a small meal for a few people. They do also provide a [propane] grill if you request it beforehand. The fridge is 3/4 full sized and will fit anything you might have brought. The freezer is equally as large and I had the brilliant idea to store a bag of ice the night before leaving.
The couch is... a couch. It folds out into a queen size bed, but it utilizes two cushions so there's a large crease in the middle. I'd save the couch for kids or people who can sleep anywhere.
There are two TVs in the cabin, both Roku. We had no issue with the wifi in our cabin (115). Speeds were acceptable for included wifi.
I can't speak to the other amenities offered as I either didn't try them, or they weren't available (food truck).
But the line between the amenities included, and those they charge, was quite confusing, and led to a lot of stress. First, they charge $50 per stay for two dogs. That's fine. Most hotels charge some fee and state it's for additional cleaning you know they won't do. But at Bay Point they provide you with a doggy pack: bowls, a leash, bag of treats, and towels and sheets. That was great, and totally worth it. But wasn't clear was whether additional towels would be charged for or were provided. Same goes for general housekeeping. There was no daily turndown service, nor any clearly communicated option for turndown service. So I was unsure if asking for supplies would incur an additional charge. Even for things I know would incur an additional charge (a bag of ice), isn't clearly communicated when ordered, or even when dropped off. I waited with baited breath after we checked out to see if we racked up some enormous bill. Thankfully, we didn't, but we didn't know that during our stay.
The last thing to discuss is the service. The most frustrating encounter was over EV charging. I specifically chose Bay Point for the two Level 2 chargers, and the supposed 110 hookups at every site. When I checked in I was told if the chargers were full I could use the hook up at my cabin if I have an adapter (I did). I confirmed that with staff that night. But then the next morning I woke up to a text saying I couldn't use it and needed to move my car. So I had to hog one of the chargers up front the whole time, and each time I left I was concerned whether they would get taken while I was gone.
Due to the price premium, and the service provided, we will probably not be returning to Bay Point, which is a shame as the dogs loved the open space to run. I'll definitely check back on reviews and see if...
Read moreOkay buckle up, this is quite the story. Essentially my wife, child and I were traveling down to Coos Bay for my grandpa’s 90th birthday. My parents have stayed with an RV at this place a few times, so they recommended it to us. We were initially excited by the cabins and the airstreams and the view seemed like it would be pretty cool as well. As we drove down, we realized we might be a bit later than the normal check-in time, so we called early into our drive (maybe 3-4pm) about 3 times asking about process for a late check-in. There was no response. Eventually we left a message and texted the number on their website asking about the process (they explained our arrival time would work, and it was different than what was in the email/website). After we received the text, we called the number again as we wanted to ask if there was the opportunity for a late check out to help with our son’s naptime (he is a toddler). They informed us that this would not work with their books (totally understand, we’ll make it work). Here is where things really start to go south, we arrive at the site, check-in and as we are leaving to go to our cabin the person at the front desk says “oh by the way, we have been having issues with the water today, so the water is turned off and you might not have access to water”. Not really knowing what to say, I responded by saying “…well hopefully we have water….” There was another whole issue with the key getting bungled at the front desk, which I wont dive into in this review. Either way my family and I go to the cabin to check out the accommodations and sure enough no water. Please keep in mind that my wife and I are potty training our toddler which becomes extremely difficult not having access to running water. This was extremely frustrating as we were in contact with the front desk in the afternoon, and this issue could have been brought up to us earlier I went back to the front desk and explained the situation, how our cabin didn’t have water, and asked what they could do for us. Their response was “There is absolutely nothing we can do”, which felt extremely disingenuous. I had to throw out ideas, can we move to another cabin? Are there other sites that have access to water? If we leave and find other accommodations, can we get a refund for our stay? They wouldn’t even commit to a refund for us, which was extremely frustrating for us. We went back and stayed at our waterless cabin, trying not to flush the toilet to quickly to ruin our one and only opportune flush. Eventually after a couple hours, the water came back on. We thought our problems were over, but then 30 minutes or so later they messaged us telling us the water would be shut off from 10pm to 8am. We expressed our frustration to the front desk to which they responded with the same “Out of our control, there is nothing we can do”. After we had left, the front desk sent a text message saying “after reviewing our reservation and the issues we encountered, they would give us 10% off our booking” I responded by stating ”I get things happen that are outside our control and issues like plumbing failing come up randomly. I think it's a fair assumption that a cabin stay with no (or intermittent) plumbing is not the same as a stay with full access to plumbing. This complicates things with a toddler seven fold. When this was brought up to the front desk the response was "there is nothing I can do" which doesn't seem genuine. There may not be anything the front desk can do about the plumbing, but I think as whole most people would say this is definitely not equal to the cost of a full night stay. It's just a bit frustrating that it took until mid-day today to officially recognize that. Was our trip affected more than 10%, I would say so.” They then proceeded to raise the refund to 20%... Don’t stay here, there are better places. The management is extremely bad. I recognize this isn’t everyone’s experience, but just a heads up if things go poorly, they probably won’t refund you or will try to get around giving...
Read moreWe booked out stay seven months out and were really excited to stay here, based on the location and pictures. Unfortunately, we were less than impressed with our stay. We booked a seven night stay. A few days before we arrived and after reading all of the rules (way too many rules)….I sent an email with a couple of questions I needed answered before arriving. I never received a response. That should have been clue number one.
Pro’s: View-while we couldn’t get a bay front spot, we did get some beautiful views. The campground is situated between several different town, so heading out to adventure was not too difficult. That’s where the pro’s end! Con’s: We primarily stay at KOA’s, so I thought, because the higher rates than KOA’s, this place might be able to exceed expectations. Not so. I’ll stick to the KOA’s. Food Truck was not available during our entire stay, even though it was in the advertising when we booked. I understand they’re pretty new (4+ years), but I feel they’ve spent the majority of their investment on the community buildings. The grounds need some serious TLC. In the 7 nights we stayed, in July, nothing was ever watered or mowed….and they desperately needed to be. Everything was tall weeds and dead. The campground is very dusty and the vehicle and trailer, inside and out, are filled with dust now. The “office” needs signage from the RV parking/check in location. I had to poke around to find it when we got there and since we were set on an end corner, the amount of people who stopped and asked where the office was, was ridiculous. Every afternoon/evening there were gun shoots heard from the campground. Not sure where they were coming from. Not the campgounds fault, but the sewage smell from the bay every morning was horrible. If you have a weak stomach…be warned. Again, not the campgrounds fault….but the burs were horrible. Several times a day we had brush/check the dog for burs. She actually ended up sick from ingesting burs, trying to get them off herself. I wouldn’t bring a dog to this campground. I felt like I was committing every possible crime the entire time we were here. There was a middle aged man who rode around in his golf cart like he was the po-lice!! It was just us he picked on, we heard him nitpicking everyone. I understand there’s rules….but I’ve never seen a place crack down so hard, on minimal things. We ended up just laughing every time we saw him, wondering what new rule violation we’d committed. He seemed to have a control complex. Wifi and cable are completely a joke. It was so spotty and almost non-existent. The WORST complaint we have is that the restrooms/showers/laundry were NEVER serviced. There was a sing on the wall that listed the hours of the day the facilities were serviced. After our 5th day there, my husband ran into the “cleaning manager” doing her laundry. He asked if we could get some cleaning service in the facilities. Her excuse was that they couldn’t find dependable help. That day, and only that day, the rooms were given a quick once over. No mopping was done, no wiping dirty services was done and only some consumables were restocked. A load had been sitting in a washer, at that point, for three days. I noticed that the sign, listing the cleaning hours was removed that day. Maybe the man riding around in the golf cart nonstop, could grab a broom and mop and actually provided a useful service. For the price we paid for our stay, we’ve just head back to keep staying at our regular KOA’s. All I heard our entire stay was excuses about staffing and finding dependable people. If you can’t provide the services and level of quality that are promised on your site advertisement….then I think it’s time you credit back partial rates to your guests for what you are unable to provide,...
