During the pandemic, we wanted to get away from our regular routine, and spend time outdoors while celebrating Christmas and New Year's. All of that was accomplished at Rincon Creek Ranch. Our 1 bedroom casita was stylish, clean and cute as a button. The proprietors stocked us with firewood for our wood burning fireplace, bubble bath and bath salts for our Kohler jacuzzi tub, fresh coffee beans and grinder for coffee each morning and even personalized Christmas Stockings and a New Year's Eve bag complete with noise makers and Prosecco! There were bird feeders strategically placed outside our large picture windows for nonstop bird watching and binoculars for close-ups. The porch featured two wooden rocking chairs for sunset viewing. There is also a gorgeous "community center" for use of all guests that had a pool table, wooden shuffle board game, big screen TV with satellite channels, books, DVD movies, even adult coloring books with colored pencils! The entire space was decorated with antiques from the southwest and definitely gave off a ranch vibe...so well done! As for the great outdoors, there are private hiking trails on the Ranch property (75-acres, I believe) that were fun to explore. The BEST amenity was a private entrance into the Saguaro National Park East. We hiked miles and miles, exploring the park while avoiding the crowds. You can buy your park pass online so there was no need to go the Park's HQ which is just a few miles up the highway. We did, however, visit the main entrance and drove the 8-mile desert view loop which was well worth it. Rincon Creek Ranch was one of the most relaxing getaways we have had in a long while. It felt like home, yet provided enough new experiences that we were refreshed after our week-long stay. Everything from the bed linens to kitchen towels to snuggly his-n-her bath robes were high quality and luxurious. The appliance were high-end and seemed to be brand new. If I could claim this place as my second home in the...
Read moreMy wife and I are avid travelers and outdoor enthusiasts, and as with many individuals, 2020 posted some unique challenges when it came to travel. Our travel was quite limited during the year, and we were growing restless as the year came to a close. We decided to escape Southern California for a few days and try something new that was drivable, and landed on Tucson. While searching for places to stay (keeping in mind we wanted to explore Saguaro National Park), we happened up on the small boutique establishment that is Rincon Creek Ranch. Having seen the rave reviews, we decided to give it a try. We were absolutely blown away by the location, the facilities, and the hospitality of the hosts, Bill and Gretchen.
First the location - COULD NOT BE ANY BETTER. The trail to the National Park begins just steps from the casitas, and within minutes, you are all alone in the solitude of the park. The grounds themselves merge seamlessly into those of the park. We found the overall location very central for the activities we sought out. The Pima Air & Space museum, about 20 minutes away, Tombstone and Tubac, each just over an hour, and of course the park literally next door.
The facilities - No detail is spared in the casitas or property. We stayed in Casa Azul, a beautiful one bedroom house, full equipped with absolutely everything one would need for an overnight or a multi-week stay. We used the nearby gas grill on multiple occasions and the guest house to borrow a few DVDs for the evenings.
The hosts - Bill and Gretchen were very attentive and helpful with any requests or needs during our stay. I ended up with a flat on our last night and Bill even changed the tire for me! We received great tips for places to visit, as well as suggestions for local trails and restaurants.
Without a doubt, 5 out of 5 starts, and will certainly stay there again...
Read moreMy wife and I spent 5 days escaping the weather in upstate NY, and discovered a true gem. RCR was just what we were looking for – peace and quiet, close to nature, warm hospitality and lots to do.
The casitas were lovely. Incredibly clean, fully equipped, and spacious, they really are as nice as they look on their website. They have virtually everything one would need for a multi-day stay; fully-equipped kitchen (with their own farm-fresh eggs), dishwasher, washer & dryer, fireplace, huge bathroom with gorgeous walk-in shower, and a super-comfortable bed. The view out our windows and from the rocking chairs on the porch were stunning. Who knew that the Sonoran Desert would be so beautiful and interesting. And quiet.
The casitas provided a great base for all that we wanted to do. The private entrance to Saguaro National Park, just a two-minute walk from our casita, led us to an amazing 6-mile loop trail through the backcountry. The stables were just 5 minutes away (we took the sunset ride!). The jeep ride was 15 minutes away and took us on an eye-opening guided tour of the desert, ending at an ancient Indian site complete with petroglyphs and relics. Our activities also included Kartchner Caverns (about 45 minutes away) and a visit to Tombstone (should have gone to Tubac!).
As much as we enjoyed our stay at RCR, it would not have been nearly as nice if it were not for our hosts, Bill and Gretchen. They were so gracious and welcoming. They gave us lots of good advice on what to do, and answered the many questions we had. Bill even took the time out of his busy day to take us on a hike to the hard-to-find crested Saguaro!
This was the nicest place we’ve ever stayed, and one of the few places we would definitely return to. If you don’t mind a short drive down a dirt road in the mountain foothills to get to a peaceful slice of heaven, then this is the...
