We booked a 3 night stay in the king Suite. Upon arrival late Monday afternoon we discovered that we had ZERO CELL SERVICE. Our provider is Verizon. Because we had a strong need for telephone service we would need to leave after only 2 nights. I went to the office to report this however it was locked. I went to the office again on Tuesday morning around 9:00 but office was locked. I went around the house to find people in the kitchen and informed them through the window that we would need to leave a day early. I requested a one day credit but was told a different sister handled the business . On Wednesday morning we loaded up to leave and I went to check out but the office was locked. I found people in the cafe kitchen and asked for a credit. I was told that we should have seen information on their website as well as the check-in email regarding cell service. We have looked again at the website and cannot find reference to cell service. We received the check-in email on Sunday which said in bold letters “Limited cell service”. “Limited” is not “no cell service” but perhaps carriers other than Verizon have service. As the check-in email came the day before our check-in so that even if we did know it was less than 24 hours so no cancellation by their policy.
Our observations from our 2 days there: No Verizon cell service No coat hangers nor place to hang clothes. No place to rest suitcases other than the floor so a lot of bending. When cafe opens at 7:00am it gets noisy. The room gets cooking odors from the cafe on Tuesday night...
Read moreWe stayed in the Queen Suite. This was a convenient place to stay for a few days of skiing at Craftsbury Outdoor Center, and overall we had a quiet, peaceful stay in a unique setting. Given that this is an old house, it did have a lot of cobwebs even when we first arrived and there were more each day. Things like that and needing to keep the bathroom door closed so the pipes didn't freeze made it feel more rustic than we were expecting. We never saw or heard anyone else in the hallway, but I have to say we did not realize you had to use the shared hallway to reach the bathroom and both rooms. In my opinion the listing is vague on this point and there are no photos showing the setup so it was just not quite what we were expecting. The last thing to consider before booking is that there are not many restaurants in the area and the closest stores close early, so if you are there when the Bistro is not open you should plan ahead for meals. The bistro downstairs was good and we had been looking forward to having a few drinks after dinner, but our table was needed and there were no seats at the bar so we were rather quickly given the check and ushered out. It also stayed open much later than the hours stated, so the sound machine comes in handy. On the whole, if we stayed here again we would definitely choose the King Suite which appears much more spacious and private. It was a good one time experience but just not...
Read moreThere was so much to like about the Farmhouse: it is charming, the views over the valley towards sunset are lovely, the great room and kitchen are marvelous, the bed was really nice. The one thing that surprised us in a bad way was that the bathroom for the three rooms in the red wing are shared amongst the 3 rooms, and the bathroom is down steep stairs from the bedrooms. In the middle of the night that is a fairly significant challenge for 70 year olds. I could not find any clear reference to shared bathrooms in the TripAdvisors or Hotels.com web listings for this lodging option. Way far down the list of details it says "shared amenities," maybe that is the clue but it is far from obvious or clear what that means, and it is like the 100th thing on the lists. If the info about this detail is more obvious, then somehow I missed seeing it both times I looked. ||Additionally, my wife found the room to be a little dirty, with cobwebs and a couple of small innocuous bugs in amongst the sheets. I didn't have the same reaction, but she has high standards for cleanliness.||All of that maybe sounds worse than what it was for us. We actually might come back to the Farmhouse, forewarned now about the bathroom situation. It really is a nice place and location, and...
