We LOVED this campground. We stayed at campsite #006 which is a hike-in site. We saw lots of wildlife, had clean bathrooms, and our own space. This was easily one of our top 5 favorite campsites we've ever stayed at.
Access: There are a couple stairs and then a path up to the campsite. It was up a little slope, but not a bad one at all. The trail was clearly marked and not overgrown. I would guess the trail was less than 50 feet. We didn't have to take gear to and from our car throughout the duration of our trip, so it wasn't inconvenient or anything. We took a couple trips up to the site carrying everything we needed and then we were pretty much set for the week.
Site: We had a lot of space. There was plenty of room to set up camp and feel cozy. The ground was flat and level where we set up our tent. We could see the road, but the cars on the road couldn't see us unless they were really looking. It felt very private and scenic and we loved it. The only con was that every car that enters the campground drives past this site, but at night the noise wasn't too bad bc most people were already at camp.
Bathrooms: Bathrooms and showers were clean and tidy. There was construction on the bridge on one side of the bathroom, so we had a longer walk to get to the other side of the bathroom from our camp. There were flushing toilets and running water sinks, but there were no electric outlets or anything.
Showers: The showers ran with quarters. They were a quarter to start and then $0.25/minute after. The water was nice and warm, but you could control it and make it cooler if you wanted. They were stall doors instead of curtains like I've seen at other places I've stayed.
Firewood: $10/bundle, fires were allowed but always double-check restrictions because they can change fast, especially over the summer.
Wildlife: Wildlife is our favorite. We saw lots of banana slugs (especially around camp bc there was a little spring along our hike-in trail), snails, some frogs, deer (and babies!), and even heard an owl one of the nights.
We definitely are planning on staying here again, and we hope we'll be able to stay at this same spot. It was an...
Read moreHad and amazing time over the july 4th weekend. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 Beautiful campground, 🌲clean bathrooms and showers (need quarters for showers), friendly hosts who made sure guests were behaving themselves so everyone could enjoy their camping trip. Dog friendly🦮🐾 , must be on leashes at all times and can only walk on paved roads. We had one group get reprimanded by Rangers for having a not so friendly dog be off leash and left dogs unattended at their site plus a ton of food unattended for two days in a row🙄. Saw one black bear early morning, 🐻but quickly ran into the forest due to too many people walking by. Hosts sell bundles of firewood. 🔥 Loved that the rangers patrolled the campground a few times a day. Some guests were also warned about driving too fast (speed limit is 5 mph or less), we almost got clipped a few times walking our dogs. Also people were not driving the correct direction on the one way roads. It's not that hard people just look at the big painted, white arrows on the road and the signs let's say, do not enter, but you know, there's always entitled jerks that tried to ruin it for others🙄 But we definitely enjoyed our stay and would come back in a heartbeat. You're only ten minutes away from crescent city that had an amazing legal fireworks show. The Del Norte police really did a great job along with the fire department to keep things in order. And a little tip, if you're looking for something sweet In the morning, check out lily's bakery. 🍩🧁 We will definitely be...
Read moreWonderful campground about two miles east of Highway 101. The setting here is so idyllic, you might be forgiven for thinking that you've wandered into an elaborate set for Avatar II. Our campsite was on the west side of the northern loop, close to the creek, where we enjoyed some afternoon sun. Walking through the loops, we saw that many sites occupy multiple levels with short flights of stairs from the parking pad to the firepit and table. Some had another level beyond that, up to a flat spot for a tent. Overall, it gave the campground a certain charm and reminded me of the Swiss Family Robinson treehouse at Disneyland.
The grounds themselves were well-managed. The staff was friendly, helpful, and available when needed. The bathrooms were clean, as campground bathrooms go, and kept in good repair.
The grounds are divided into two loops. The southern section has more redwoods and some truly amazing old-growth stumps. In the north, the forest is more mixed. Both, though, feature lush undergrowth that helps to provide a sense of privacy between sites.
We found Mill Creek to be a good jumping off point for all four parks in the area. Crescent City is a short drive away for emergency supplies, or to get back into cell...
