We have enjoyed the Starlight Mountain Theatre over the last few years, but we have been very disappointed in the last two shows we watched, Cinderella and The Little Mermaid. Though both included clever theatrical elements and some good acting (although most of the main characters seemed much weaker than previous productions), both contained material that would not fall under the category of "wholesome family entertainment" if that is what you are expecting. They are sprinkled throughout with sensuality and rebelliousness toward parental authority, seemingly innocent on the surface, perhaps, but seeds are being planted. The Mermaid costumes were surprisingly revealing with no skin toned covering as usually found in theatrical costuming. Some of Ursula the witch's lines are very inappropriate for young children, and she and her eel cohorts are just plain creepy to kids, though funny to adults. Perhaps it is Disney's scripts that are to blame, and if that is the case, I would hope that the Starlight Mountain Theatre would be more discerning and reconsider their production choices and try harder to provide real "wholesome family entertainment" without all the garbage that we already get plenty of from tv, Prime, Netflix, and practically everywhere else. We need to say, "NO MORE!"! The family is under attack in this country. And it begins with corrupting and sexualizing our kids, very discreetly at first, then quite boldly as we are now seeing. For the thirty dollars a seat and the touting of themselves as "family entertainment" I would hope Starlight Mountain Theatre would do everything in its power to strengthen the family and not be a part of its destruction. As for me, sadly, I do not plan to patronize them again until they have eliminated these deceitfully destructive elements from their...
Read moreStarlight Mountain Theater is so, so worth a beautiful 1 hour drive! The combination of the entertainment, laughing till you cry, the scent of pine trees, (be sure to roll down the windows once or twice, folks), fun food, watching a family member be sung Happy Birthday to, on STAGE- money can't buy memories like this! The experience absolutely brings JOY to our LIVES! How many things can you say that about!? The family who founded, and run it, are among the most loving and decent people I know. They recognize true talent, encourage and bring out the very best in their cast members! And the Theater Camp for kids is a highlight my young son will never forget! Whether Starlight Mtn. Theater is a once a year fun spot with your group of friends or your family, or you determine to enjoy all the shows, more often, it is a gem among Idaho Community Events! For our family, it has more than made us happy; Starlight Mtn. Theater has become a part of our family experience our children will always remember! Go, people. Just do it! (And if you need some quiet nature time, go early and take in the gorgeous scenery, plan a hike, or float the river, or camp up there. So fun! Ahem! P.S. The concessions stand does take credit cards, and also sells great food in the seats in cash, so you are golden, there! (If you want a cast member KISS on the cheek, with your "licorice": definitely bring cash!)...
Read moreStarlight Mountain Theatre is a must for “our ladies tribe” every year, and we make it to every show the season offers as season pass holders. Last night we went to the show, Bright Star. We had no expectations other than the host telling us weeks before we were to go, “that it was one of his favorite shows!” I love Starlight for their family friendly shows, atmosphere, actors, and overall amazing “get out for the night” experience. However, this show was very different, it was touching, thought provoking, emotional, raw, and just BEAUTIFUL!!! I laughed, I cried, I was drawn into the emotion of the story because the actors displayed each character so well. I can’t speak highly enough about this amazing show! Theatre should be able to capture all emotions, and this show does exactly that! Life isn’t always easy, and there are parts of the the show that leave you emotional, and cause you to think about your own family relations, and that was what made this show so touching to me. I usually walk away from the night feeling entertained, last night I walked away feeling entertained and moved to express my love to my own children. Thank you Starlight Mountain Theatre for this amazing show! Go see Bright Star, and take some...
