Very interesting place... Not in a good way... I don't even know how or where to begin... Pulled down the driveway and was greeted with a strange man all in black holding an AK-15 ... My husband and I were very confused and couldn't understand it .. apparently there was some kind of coin show .. but this was very unsettling . I mean if your security at least wear something that says your security he was just all in black leather .. also, he just continuously stared at us as we walked into the hotel
We walked in to The lobby and up to the desk and was greeted by a sign that said be back in 10 minutes... Which honestly makes no sense because that sign could have been there for hours.. but surprisingly someone appeared quickly ...but I will say the lobby was nice.. We had a room on the second floor with a balcony.. The balcony overlooked the pool.... not what I was expecting but okay....(Pool is indoor). As we made our way towards the elevator, we had a walkout into this strange outer hallway to make it to the elevator... Again okay. Once we got to the second floor and opened the door, we were met with the most moody purple. Absolutely everywhere.. But no sign as to which way to go.. We had to choose. Do we go straight or do we go right?.. room numbers and directions would be great... So anyway we said let's go straight. The numbers are going up ...well That was the worst decision ever.. I can't even begin to describe how many times we turned down hallways until we finally made it to our room.. We really started to believe we were in some matrix glitch.... I still can't figure out this floor plan... Once we walked in our room we were hit with kind of a chlorine type smell, which I guess is expected since we had a balcony out to the indoor pool.. The room I will say was clean, however the TV was something out of 1985... We'll get back to that... The door did not have a security lock. It did however have a really old bathroom stall lock above the door handle that was so encrusted with paint. It was unusable. I guess this was the "chain" for security at some time.. also the molding around the door looked like the door was kicked in from the outside. It just really was an unsafe situation.. I'm glad I wasn't alone...It also seems that every room that faces the pool are adjoining rooms... So already feeling unsafe about the door. Just adding another door was a topper...
The bathroom was very clean. It looked newly renovated but inside there was a weird sign that advised that all the towels are coaded and could be seen by the staff only and are counted??? If you take any you will be charged.... I have never seen this in my life.. my husband and I looked at every corner of these unspecial unsoft towels... And if there is a special code I guess good for them cuz I can't find it... So we put on the TV... Well tried to because the remote would not turn it on.. Now I'm not saying this is a big issue because we were out all day and this was like 10:00 at night when we noticed this... But we turn the TV on from the TV itself and we get lines... The channel would come on and it would just be lines and jumping through the whole thing with a weird reddish tinge... There's also no cable and it's like local antenna TV so there's like five six channels but you could barely even see them. So why bother?... There was also no point to the balcony because who's going to sit there and stare at people while they swim... Also, if you wanted any "natural" light in your room from the pool rooms skylight and you kept your curtain to the balcony open everybody could see you in your room...It was just very odd
Unfortunately, getting a good price isn't always the best choice... We went on a spur of the moment trip which was wonderful.. but would I stay...
Read moreThe overall appearance of this hotel immediately disappointed me. Lamps were broken, walls were stained, and our door even had holes in it. (see attached photos). The latch-lock inside our room was broken, so we were unable to provide extra safety for the belongings we left in our room. The rooms had an old look to them, which didn't really bother me, but might be bothersome to other people.
The whole theme to this hotel was that this was probably an awesome hotel in the 70s, but no one has done anything to maintain, update, or repair since then. The bathroom fixtures appear to be original. The front lobby had new, modern furniture with a trendy color palette. I am assuming that they will be improving other spaces because all the way down the main hall to the lobby were tons of boxes that were labeled as hotel supplies and maybe furniture. However, I found this very tacky to have the hallways cluttered as such. We saw a few dozen mattresses in the dumpster outside, so likely they recently replaced them. Ours was comfy, but the sheets were too small and kept coming off in the night. They should have sprung for new sheets with deeper pockets with new mattresses.
Two other things that were just awful to behold: the side door to the back parking lot had a stick in the bottom propping it open (see photo) because the card reader by the door didn't work. It made me feel very unsafe. Also, our wing had sliding doors that opened to a center patio shared by rooms on the same floor. It was full of tall weeds and ancient brick ruins (don't know how else to describe it).
Previous reviews told that the air conditioning wasn't working. Our AC unit ended up switching off and on.
Outside of our room we had difficulties finding our way around. After minutes of searching through the halls, we decided to ask the front desk where we could find the ice. A sign was left on the desk saying that the desk was closed, but we could go to the hotel next door or dial 0 for help. Really? Sounds like there is some cooperation with the hotel next store, very odd. So I dialed 0 and it just rang and rang. It felt like we were alone on an island. Seriously, we are guests here and they just abandoned us and gave no notice or warning when we checked in.
Later, we searched again, and were able to find ice on our own, but the machine was empty. There was a vending area by our room which had a big empty spot and looked like there used to be a machine. The only other one was far away. It seems like they have 1 machine for the whole large facility. We called the front desk and they said that other guests had used the ice to fill up ice chests and that there was nothing that they could do and we would have to wait for the machine to refill.
The TV is an old tube with a 4:3 aspect ratio. My kids announced, "An old-fashioned TV!" They were much more excited than I was.
Breakfast food was as good as any full free breakfast and the dining room looked like it could have been fancy in 1975.
The pool was warmed and just the right temp. Large and nice area. This was probably the one things I enjoyed about our stay.
I choose this placed mostly because of price and the photos online. The photos don't tell the whole story. I would probably pay more next time and stay elsewhere for better service and just a few...
Read moreI generally do not leave hotel reviews, but I felt like I had to leave an honest one for anyone traveling to the Gettysburg area soon. It’s just so expensive to stay anywhere nowadays we felt like we should leave a review so people can make good decisions. And Gettysburg is such a special place. We chose the Eisenhower Hotel and Conference Center because it was close to the battlefield, but not exorbitantly priced as many of the hotels in the downtown area are.. ||The staff was very friendly. The pictures we found on several of the websites we looked at, however, were not representative of the hotel. We did have a balcony in our room that looked out over the pool, and the pool looked beautiful, although we did not use it.||The beds were comfortable and clean. We did not have independent control of the temperature in our bedroom—at least we could not find the thermostat. Some towels were stained while others were fine. They were all thin and non-absorbent, though, so we had to ask for more. There were no fans in the bathrooms so it became very stuffy in the room very quickly once we had had showers. There was only one trashcan in the room and it was very small. There was shampoo, shower gel, conditioner, and body lotion, but only enough for two people at most; the bar of soap was a literal sliver. There was a hairdryer, iron and ironing board. The room had a coffee maker and three packets of coffee, and one package containing sugar and powdered creamer. The hotel itself did have breakfast and coffee and the coffee was fairly good. We did not eat breakfast in the hotel except for fresh fruit. There was a microwave and a good sized mini-refrigerator. The sliding deadbolt on our door was glued shut by dried paint so we could not use it.||The floors were laminate throughout most of the hotel, except in the hallways leading to the rooms, where some of the carpet appeared to be new, but poorly installed, and some carpet was quite old and faded. The floor in our room had splatters of white paint on it. We had rented a suite so we would have a sofabed for a third person, but it turned out to be only a couch. When we tried to pull it out, we removed the cushions and found filth underneath them. We asked for a rollaway then and were accommodated. ||It smelled as though the hotel may have had a problem with mold or mildew at some point because when we walked in the door initially, we smelled a musty mold smell, especially in the stairwells. There was no moldy smell once on the main area of the second floor though. There was a strong smell of air freshener in the halls downstairs leading to the elevator. There was some garbage strewn about in the stairwells.||The highlights of staying there was the lovely woman who staffed the front desk in the mornings AND the many beautiful Leonburger dogs that people had brought for a dog show on May 10. We were happy that it was a pet...
